  • Web Site Hosting

Iím looking for a new web hosting provider for my personal domain name. Right now I am looking at http://www.icdsoft.com. They are about $5/month with 333 megs of storage and 5gigs of transfer/month. I do not anticipate a great deal of traffic but I was looking for a little more room so I can have more room to store my all my pictures. I was also would prefer ASP support.

I have been very fortunate to be able to run my own server on a T1 but those days are over so I am new to the commercial web hosting business. Any recommendations?

This nearly free.. this is absurd!

I used to use interserver.net .. I do NOT recommend them.. they aren't very expensive.. but their service is slow (if it ever responds) I let my account expire.. I've switched over to using someone who is handling everything for free now I was going to can my websites.. but since he seemed pretty happy to get them I figured I'd spend (waste?) my time migrating everything.

                      Darkfiles is amazingly cheap.

Do you have an example of a website so I can see the actual bandwidth?

There are no popups like Tripod or Geocites right?

                              OK,

How can some hosting companies have 1 gig for 8 bucks a month, yet another site has 100meg for 20 a month.

What part of the big picture am I missing?

I don't want to move my stuff, and have it disappear, or become unusable...

Nor do I want to pay out the ying yang for space...the cheapscapes at RR only "give" me 5 megs. (and charge a small fortune for every 10 megs after that)

I need the space because I do a lot of travel and VNC my computer to FTP stuff up to a site that I can get at anywhere.

Not to mention photographs and video (not pr0n sorry)

Obviously the free geocites site gets max capacity all the time, the 10megs there are full, 15 megs at another place are full, and the 'free' 5 megs from RR aren't even enough to use.

but those sites are all stable (even geocities)
