  • Electrochromic Windows for vehicles.

will someone do me a favor and make a car with electrochromic windows or maybe even the tail lights so it appears blacked out till i hit break or turn signal or running lights.

Oh and i wonder what the glare is like on these kind of windows. I was thinking perhaps maybe it would be useful for a carpc screen some how? idk just popped into my head.

    k thanks,

    john

oh if you do make one please send me one for testing. haha

i am currently subscribed to emails from a maker that seems to be close-- they produce the film used on the g35 in the video above.. there is no way to use that film while driving...

currently, i have not found any manufacturer that makes what i want-- a variable black tint that comes in a film that could be easily applied to any window(some days, i want 30%, and other days, i want 5%)

right now, the demos for flexible lcd/oled screens(oled technically emits light, so it would not work as a tinting film, but would make a awesome HUD) are closest to making things like this a reality, but are not predicted to touch the consumer market until around 2012-15 last i heard...

I did extensive research on this a few months ago, and there are printable materials that would make the film a reality. However it is very costly. Also the problem comes when "cutting" them film. If you squeeze the layers into shorts, you ruin the whole thing.

ill have to read up on what the above videos actually are lol. I post things at random kinda because my mind works that way and later i have to go back and figure out why i did it. I don't see an issue with the possibility of making windows that tint to ones desires.
Whats the problem with not being able to use those windows while driving? lighting problem? or saftey problem?

You guys got me curious about this stuff now I might have to spend some time reading lol. I'd like to learn more about electrochromic windows and films and how they actually work. If it is possible to do it on a house window why not in car? could it be slide controlled on dash? or even on touch screen?

I wonder if they make windows like the glasses that tint in sunlight? sorry i live a simple life. (fb,hulu, porn, craigslist, work, sleep.)

oh what is HUD? sorry ive been away from pc stuff for a long time. I barely remember them just coming out with flexible screens.

oh one more thing..... if they can emit an image off the window or a movie...cant they do the same for a tint? or is the image quality dependent on the windows tint?

some more research for you(more links at bottom of linked page):
                      http://forums.cardesignnews.com/eve/...07/m/630105271

research frontiers is the company i get update emails from...

basically, this is not the best product for cars because it requires AC power to keep at any level other then off, and it's 'off' state is dark-- meaning that if your car looses power, a battery terminal loosens up, etc, you won't be able to see out any windows you covered...

for the white-looking electrochromatic glass covering-- this is bad because it makes it impossible to see when turned on, and imo, would attract more attention when the car is parked. it also has very little to zero tint value-- ie-- there is no 'half-on' setting-- either you can see, or you can't...

but this film has a advantage for as a projection screen-- like what was shown on the g35...

basically, the white looking film works this way-- with a short burst of voltage in 1 direction, it lines up a bunch of particles suspended in the film, allowing you to see through it. apply voltage the other way, and it randomizes the particles, making the glass look white, and hard to see through.

As far as I can tell all current applications in cars and office windows require lamination IN the glass, not applied as a film ontop.

                          electrochromic tints?

it seems there are a handful of us in this race to create a marketable electrochromic tint system. i believe i am winning, hope i dont sound arrogant!

if we want to improve or add to this technology we all must understand that its not for everyone. its uses are limited to:

                          1. security and privacy
                          2. repeling heat on a hot sunny day
                          3. cosmetically improving a car's image
                          (am i missing anything?)

this technology should be able to

                          1. be availabe in a variety of colors
                          2. ability to adjust opacity
                          3. apply to a car alarm system as auxillary channels front, rear, rear windsheild
                          (what else?)

this technology can be marketed to:

                          1. high profile celebrities
                          2. paronoid car enthusiasts!
                          3. police and surveilance companies
(many more, who wants to add to the list?

one of us is going to perfect this concept. might as well be a colaborative effort! i see some of you have gotten pretty close, tho i havent seen any of you adjusting the opacity, nor have i seen film matching the car's paint color. i have done all of the above. and i will share/trade ideas with serious conceptual teams or companies. you may contact me with real questions comments or requests (954) 594-3275. or email me at [email protected]

im sure we all respect confidentality as we are the originals at this. keep up the good work creative people. call or email me if you really want to create a perfect working model.

also, does anybody know where i can find a database with every car window dimensions? this would help me a whole hellova lot! thanks every 1

i don't think that anyone in this thread is a producer, or manufacterur(at least that is my understanding), so, i have some consumer-type questions--

most films currently available loose their settings without power, do you have a solution that only requires power to change states? what about variable states?

                            a/c or d/c?

my reasons for getting such a film are as i stated above-- some days, i would really like to have a very dark tint all the way around, but at other times, a dark tint is too dark, and i would like to lessen it to alow more light through..

it really has nothing to do with being a celebrity, paranoid, or surveilance.. i'm just never happy with one thing...

and most importantly, how much will it cost?

for your question on the database: there are companies that offer precut tinting film, i assume that they have some sort of database for window shapes, maybe you could use that database?

                              easy as 123 or abc!

if its a hot day, shade yourself by turning the charge to the window "off". turn on when you would like to enjoy your view!

now, you want to apply a variable to the opacity of your windows, you will need to research whats called a "potentiometer". you can use a $2 potentiometer from home depot just like if you were to add that to your fan. its as simple as that.

did you install your electric windows yourself? just curious.
