  • need Faceplate for in dash cd player

My buddy just bought a car that had a run in with some thieves, they broke the back window and stole the "faceplate" from the stereo but didn't take the actual headunit. The headunit has 2 sets of 4-volt preamp outputs, 2-volt non-fading subwoofer outputs with switchable low-pass filter and level control, Rear panel auxiliary input.Made in 1999. Identical to this one :link
Anyhow my buddy already gave this to me as he has bought a new one, so my question is has anybody ever found a place that deals in faceplates for older decks? Should i just put a free ad in the buy and sell paper, any idea's?

most stereo companies will NOT provide faceplates for decks b/c when they are stolen, they are typically taken without the faceplate. so... getting one from the company would probably be difficult.

i would say troll on ebay for it. you can probably pick up a face plate for your specific radio, as long as it isnt too old.

or u could post some want ads in the paper, or on some forums to see if anyone has a leftover face plate from a deck that crapped out on them.

if your buddy still has the original bill of sale, you might be able to convince the manufacturer that you are in fact the rightful owner, and they may be persuaded to sell you a replacement.

    good luck

    ~Mike

Edit: is it the Panasonic CQ-DF88 that you have the link to???

I am sorry but I have to disagree with mp3z24 about most places not selling them.

I use to work in the car audio industry and even way back then you could walk in and buy them. (Or at least order them)

It will most likely be cheaper to go on eaby though. Also you may want to consider the fact that your buddy got it stolen and the owner had the faceplate. (Not saying it is true but is very common)

        i stand corrected...

anyway. i looked up the parts on the panasonic webpage...

        YESSDF0005 ... DETACHABLE F/P ***'Y ... 55.06
        YESSDF0006 ... DETACHABLE FACE ***'Y ... 55.06

        go to Panasonic Parts
From there the product selection tree goes as follows...
        Audio -> Car Audio -> CD Receivers -> CQ-DF88 -> [GO]
Then you select the exact model number of the deck. For yours, i chose: CQ-DF88EUC based on the link you provided. I selected list parts by description.... and low-and-behold there it was... staring me right in the face...

SO, it appears you can get this stuff from the MFR. must have been some urban legend bull**** fed to me in high school... sigh.

Hope it works out for you. 55 bucks doesnt look too bad for a face plate.

        ~Mike

edit... i just checked out my decks face plate cost...$114, ouch!!!

Thanks a lot for the info guy's, $55 ain't that bad i guess. Yeah my buddy bought the car with the headunit in it but no faceplate, the guy he bought it from just got fed up with a recent overhaul of the car and then his stereo get's ripped. My buddy pick's up the sweet deal, spends a couple of buck's on a window and hands off the deck to me. Maybe i'll ask him if the original owner has the reciept still since my buddy works with him, that way i'll also know if the deck was hot or not from that guy.
          Thanks again guy's.

:Yep that link was correct for the model number found on the headunit.

Well a little update. It seems it wasn't that hard to find after all. I called up Panasonic and they put me through to they're parts suppliers and warranty people (HY-TECH). Anyhow they had it in stock and with the same part number and price as in the above posts. Just goes to show ya that when someone gives you something that they don't have time to find the parts for, it pay's off in the end. I already tested it and the display looks pretty slick. Anyhow gonna hook it up this weekend, and also keep workin on the 10.4" install too!

prices for faces have really dropped. I remember a few years ago, face plates were almost $200 except those cheap Kenwood all plastic faces with no internal electronics. I guess it all depends on how fancy the stereo is. I mean there's no way an Alpine CDA7949 face can be as cheap as $55. Most dealers wont order the faces unless you have proof of ownership receipts or bill of sales. Hell, my local shops wont install used stereos unless they can show prove of ownership and they keep track of serial numbers.
