  • Delete preinstalled printer drivers and other stuff taking up space

    Hi all,

I just purchased 4 Lenovo Thinkpad T60 laptops. The only problem is they have a 60GB HDD. Once Windows is updated, office is installed and all the other apps that are needed are there, only 45GB are free.

Easy fix is to buy a bigger hard-drive. But that still leaves windows bloated and slow.

I know there is a way on OS-X to not install any printer drivers or additional languages. Is there a way to do this on XP Pro once it is already installed?

I've done a google search already and would rather not have to format and slipstream windows. I'll leave that as a last resort.

Is there anything else I can delete that will make Windows faster? It's a decent machine
    Core Duo 1.86GHz, 4GB DDR2 Ram.

Good advice on the black viper website. That is one of the first things I do. One thing about laptops is that they dont really run at full speed ever, even when set as a desktop always on. I run a free program called speedswitch xp. This allows you to set the processor speed at full all the time. I also run a program called WinPatrol, which shows all the programs that are running on startup, and stop them or delay them to keep boot speed as fast as possible.

With the use of these three suggestions, I have a boot speed, after bios post of under 20 seconds on a 2.4ghz Dell D630.
