  • Honda Civic Question

    I'd thought I would ask some of you guys this, cause I am pretty sure there are some Import Car people on this board. I've got a 1995 Honda Civic DX that I am looking to replace the motor in it, as it has 185,000 miles on it and parts are starting to wear out. I have managed to find a few places online where I can get a V-Tec for a good price. My question is will the V-tec bolt up in the same way as the original 1.5L and can it use the same computer. If anyone doesnt know could you point me in the right direction to where I can look this up? I am also on a tight budget so Spoon or GSR engines are pretty much out of the picture. Looking to spend below $1,000.

      I readily admit that I know next to nothing about hondas, but I remember seeing something similar done on a show on tnn or speedchannel, and it needed a new ecu to go along with the new engine (different maps). I'd think this would be the case for pretty much any engine swap.

        definitely going to be more than $1000...yes you'll need to change the ecu, the V-tec has some extra sensors and also the selinoid for the V-tec. You can also check out http://resource.crx.org/ , they have some good info on the swap since it's the same chassis as a CRX...

          Hondas are usually very easy to through a new motor into.. unless you find one wrecked for a VERY good deal, I can garuntee you will spend more than $1000. Yes, you will need a new ECU, and new mounting hardware for the engine.

            I've always thought of transversly mounting a big old V8 on a Fiero transmission in a Civic...Just a thought...

              ive always thought about taking a porsche 911 engine and moving it to the front of a FWD car... just another thought for ya

                    I was reading a really funny article in a magazine once... Evidently they paid some engineers from ford to cram a ford v8 crate motor, t-5, and 8.8" rear end into Ford Focus hatchback. Asside from the dual exhaust coming out of the back, it looked stock.

                    The editors said they would rev at ricers at stop lights and they would hear the big american v8 and see the tiny car, but wouldnt make the connection till they had utterly lost.

                          if you have the time or resources... take a look at the may 19, 2003 issue of autoweek.

                          Acurate Technologies (some ford performance group) built up the ultimate focus.

                          stock focus trim
                          SVT Cobra engine tuned to 500+ hp and 500+ tq
                          ~3200 lb car
                          converted to rear wheel drive
                          the only give aways are the dual exhaust and the bigger rear wheels.

                          and yes, they are planning on selling these cars!!! but, for ~ 70,000 Plus the donor focus car.
