  • I despise all humanity (except this community of course :))

    FYI/TLDR: Incoming rant...

My fiance was involved in a hit and run the other night. My 4 year old son was in the vehicle as well. At the corner of 2 streets, my fiance just stopped at the stop sign we had (not a 4 way), and after checking for clear traffic started turning left. Apparently, the time it took her to look up/down the street for clearance to go, this dude comes flying up behind her and hits the back left of our vehicle. Immediately she gets out of the vehicle, and the guy speeds off, almost running over her in the process. No phones ready, no witnesses, no plate info, called cops but no help, filed insurance claim but no help.

Don't you just love having to pay for damages that someone else caused? I don't. I took care of my vehicle, I don't want it too look damaged. It's now damaged, not our fault, so I don't want to pay for it to get fixed. I shouldn't have to, I didn't cause it. I'm livid, can't ya tell!!!

Ugh... I absolutely hate people. Why do people think they are the only ones that matter and they can do anything they want without reprocussion. I hope karma finds you and you get what you deserve, you ungrateful, uncaring bastard.

Watching CSI, NCIS, etc, I'm sure all intersections, Bank hole in the walls, supermarkets, banks etc in the states have cctv cameras, get onto the authorities to check on cctv footage for a number plate

A hit and run happened just outside my house about a month back. Smashed into our neighbors' truck and sped off. Unfortunately law enforcement only cares about making money off of stupid traffic infractions like 6mph over the speed limit, seat belt tickets, and tickets for talking on your cell phone. They aren't too concerned with dedicating their time to anything that they can't feed their quota with.

Intersection was all residential, late at night. No businesses for like 2 blocks in any direction. Intersection also only had 2 stop signs, no lights, etc. So doubtful of cameras.

Had the insurance people take a look at it today while I was at work and the fiance was home so I couldn't talk with them. Got the papers/quote from them when I got home, $800+ in damages with a $500 deductible that they won't re-imburse. But they said I have a choice of shop, so not sure how their quote works with my choice of shop?

Anyways, whoever did this out there in my hometown. F U!!!!! Give me $500 back. /CRY...

That's what insurance is for... You choosing to have a $500 deductible was a gamble and depending on your premium difference you may or may not have lost in this case. If you pay enough, you can get $0 deductible, but if you never use it, then you lose too. Since insurance is a scam either way, might as well use it when you can.

with $800 in damages and a $500 deductable, i wouldn't go through insurance-- your only 'saving' $300, that you will pay later when they raise your rates...

also-- watch out for aftermarket parts. when my car got hit, the ins. company tried using aftermarket parts, and the fit was horrible.. the body shop guys were very vocal about the amount of tweaking they had to do just to get most of it to line up.. if you can afford it, always use oem parts.

Honestly, $800 in damages is nothing. I've had cars totaled for dents in the past. You should feel lucky she wasn't hurt, or your kid, and write off the $800 as part of life. It could have been much much worse.

Did you actually expect a different response from the insurance company?

It is pretty much a universal policy with any auto insurance company; if you cannot identify the other party involved then [policy-wise] you are considered 100% responsible. Although it is easy to feel cheated in a circumstance like yours, it is also easy to understand why they do this. I hate to defend an insurance company, but I understand why they have a policy like this. For example, how do they know your finance (or you) didn't back into another car in a parking lot somewhere, and then claim somebody else hit you and took off?

                --

Personally, I have been hit twice where the other driver took off; I "chased" them down both times...

-The first time (about 12-13 years ago) a car crossed over the double yellow line and sideswiped me, I almost caused another accident when I abruptly made a 3-point turn in the middle of traffic to change directions. I caught up with the car about a 1/2 mile down the road, illegally passed the car and jerked in front of it so they had to stop. It turned out to be an elderly woman who didn't even know she hit me, I calmed down and had to call the police to get her information (even though I was calm, she was still too scared of me to get out of her car or give me any of her information, hehe. Had it been some young punk instead of a sweet little old lady, then I may have gone to jail for the savage beating I would have given him ).

-The second time (about 5 years ago) a car rear ended me and went right under my work truck. I could have just put it in park and let his stupid car stay stuck under there, but we were blocking traffic so I pulled over to the side. As soon as I pulled over the @$$*#!* took off and got on the highway, I got his [out-of-state] plate number as he was driving away and wrote it on my hand. I took off after him and called 911. I was specifically told by the 911 operator not to chase him, so I didn't but I still kept him in sight in case he tried to exit the highway and hide somewhere. Lucky for me a state trooper had set up a speed trap a few miles down the road, saw the [damaged] car and pulled him over. long story short; I could have let him go (as the truck had almost no damage), but instead I got the satisfaction of watching that piece of excrement get arrested and his piece of excrement car get towed/impounded.

It's amazing to me that so many hit and runs actually happen. Aside from the fact that I'm a decent human being and wouldn't want to leave someone with damages and insurance hell, I would be way too afraid of the person turning in my license plate number to the police and eventually getting pulled over and hauled off to jail.

Perhaps AutoFX works for the White House?

                            http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-14320229

The White House has lightened the tone of the debt ceiling debate by joining an online craze known as "Rickrolling".

Responding to criticism during a Twitter chat, the White House offered users a link to "something more fun".

The link pointed to a YouTube video of UK pop singer Rick Astley's 1987 number one hit Never Gonna Give You Up.
