  • $400 dollar headlight.....(subaru)

Ok so i'm out driving my Scooby and some idiot stops short..
I jam the breaks and get off with only tapping him a little on the rear,
The guy gets out, checks his f150 bumper, and suprise.. no damage.
I on the other hand have slight fractures in the front right headlight of my car. So i figure its only a lense.. no big deal.

I take it in for service, and they tell me I have to buy an entire new headlight for like $400 dollars...

Is this a joke? Am i getting scammed? Can't I just buy a new lense for the headlight...

My Impreza is a 2002 so it has the nice rounded headlights that are hard to find.

    mobo $130 ; 150wOpus-$200 ; 256mb pc2700 -$10 ; 120gb HDD 7200-$70 ; Lilliput TS 7"-$265 ; USB LAN-Free AR ; Rikaline 6010 GPS-$34 ; ShuttleXpress-$37
    Total = $746....Carputer = Priceless

im afraid to say that is about how much they are. This is because A.) supply and demand B.) the lense is molded with the plastic behind it, so it is all one unit. You should call around to all the dealers in your area to see which can give you the better deal because that is the dealers set price, not subaru's.

I hate it when morons do that kind of crap.

One time, I was driving on a busy street, and I had my date and her sister in the car. The guy in the SUV in front of me slams on the brakes, why I don't know. I barely tap him. He gets out, looks at his car, looks at my car, looks at me, and gets back in his car.

Fortunately it all worked out. Later on, my date asked, "What were you doing when he slowed down?" I replied, "I was looking at you."

What exactly is required for a cars headlights to pass inspection?
Can I a good old glue job or something so that it will slide by?

my brother backed into a chair with my old 93 camry, and broke a whole light section that was like 4 ft long, 1ft high, got it for $50 at a junkyard . Try a junkyard (altough your car is probably much newer, and cars at junkyards usually have the front end all f***ed up)

That's a nice set of wheels you've got there, how come you don't have insurance?
A few months ago some idiot smashed my front window, but the insurance covered it. Not to metion the two times my car was hit in the parking lot.

I had a Lense crack on me because of a rock and i checked at a dealership and they wanted $300, the aftermarket and junk yards were a little better at $200. Good luck.

If you want the insurance to cover it (might make the rate go up though!) tell them a rock hit it and shattered the lens. Watch out on the aftermarket stuff...some of the stuff doesnt fit very well (leaks, ect)

Dont go to insurance. If they dont jack the insurance now, they will later. Technically it's your fault and you cant win this one. Any JDM part is going to run you about that at a dealer, it's no ripoff. As an example... blacked out jdm lenses from japan for a mazda6 cost 900 US. Yes thats right.

Rear tails > $280US ~ 400 Can with taxes etc. Also dont forget they are probably not quoting you for 1 headlight, it doesnt make sense for them to get just one. So if you do end up getting it from them.. make sure you get the 2nd one handed over to you as well.

That would be under comprehensive insurance. A lot of people don't have comprehensive because it will double the price of your insurance. It is worth it however because there are a lot of broke uninsured drivers out there.

Junkyards are a really good idea. I get a lot of parts from junkyards and they give em to me real cheap.
