  • Dual vs Single Channel (2x256MB or 1x512MB)

I'm totally out of the RAM/DDR loop but am slowly getting back up to snuff on the lingo as I just bought an Asus P4C800-E mobo. The one thing I cannot seem to figure out is whether 2x256 Dual Channel will be that much better than a single 512 stick. I know it will be somewhat faster (more bandwith)...but will it be that great? The reason to go with just one 512 is to eventually buy another (or is compatibility of buying a second that big of an issue?). That could be a year later though...

Maybe a better question would be is 4x256mb that much better than 2x512mb?

Also, this whole CAS CL thing...I cannot seem to find many 512mb sticks running 2.5 - they are all 3.0. Maybe I am looking too bargain basement though - looking to stay around $80 for 512mb.

Basically, I am trying to decide between 2 of these: http://store.yahoo.com/ms4me/sam25ddrpc32.html

    and one of these:

Feel free to point me to some place cheaper - but I keep reading stuff about generic ram and the problems it can cause...so I guess I want name brand RAM.

    Thanks for noob help...
