  • Rant against the laziness of UPS

My suggeestion to everyone is to NOT use UPS for any of your shipping needs.

I expected a package today according to the UPS tracking system. As of 5:47am today the web site said the package was out for delivery. So I took off work to stay home to get it.

All days goes by, no UPS. Finally at 6:45 PM I check the tracking again, which says a delivery attempt was made at 5:29pm and no one was available to sign for the package.

First off, that's total bull. Second, there's no little yellow sticker on my door to let me call to have the package held at the shipping center tommorow. Can't just call UPS with a tracking number to have that done apparently, you need the little yellow stick number. So I go to the UPS shippin hub, which closes at 7pm. I get there at 7:01pm and cant' even get the ugly stupid lazy ***** inside to acknowledge I'm there. I don't expect her to stay for another hour to find my package, but it'd be nice if she'd have at least taken the time to say they were closed and when they opened in the morning or to take the tracking number so the package could be help there in the morning.

So some lazy *** jerk of a UPS driver wants to go home early so he decides a number of his packages are to people who aren't home so he gets to go home early. Then the lazy ***** at the store won't even acknowledge my existence more than a nasty glare to signify that I'm not important.

So my suggestion to all of you, never use UPS. They've been good to me in the past, but I'm done with their lazy, non caring asses now.

I know the aggravation you speak of. The regular office hours here are until 5 or 6 PM, which make it virtually impossible for those of us who work in Manhattan to pick up a package. I used to curse UPS until I found out that I can do the following:

If/when I miss a OOPS package, I can call them with either the tracking or infonotice number and ask them to hold the package at the hub for afterhours pickup, where I can pick the package up until 10PM. That works better for me at this point than FedEx, who only stay open til 8PM.

        Peace!

Well Fed-Ex drivers apparently work off of commision, were as UPS have an hourly wage.
I remember my professor talking about it in an Economics course. Apparently the driver pays for his own truck and delivers as many packages in a day as he can. And if he cant make the deliveries he will sometimes hire a contractor to drive the truck for him on those days. I wish it were that easy to just go with Fed-Ex.....I'm not to fond of DHL either, if your address doesnt show up on their GPS map, they dont even bother. You just gotta go with whatever the company your ordering from uses.

I've never really had that sorta issue happen with UPS.....the only problem i've had with them is the driver for my neighborhood hit my mailbox 4 consecutive times. Nobody else has ever hit our mailbox. Just that dumb****. Well....havent seen him in a while....wonder why.

            I'm not surprised.

The must not do driving history checks or something.. I've got a buddy who works for UPS, and I can't believe they let him drive! He drives like a frickin madman and has wrecked every car he ever owned.. his last accident was when he was messin around, doing 80 in a 30 in the rain, and then lost control - he literally rolled his car sideways through one of those 20' lamp posts, and then through a Friendly's parking lot. Fortunately for him a) the lot was empty and b) he escaped without any life-threatening injuries, although I believe he might have broken his back or something along those lines.

Funny thing is there was a cop sitting in a parking lot across the street waiting for people to speed by. D'oh!

I'm not pleased with UPS either. I put together an Athlon 3800 system a few months ago and had around $1000 of the parts shipped with UPS. Knowing the package was coming, I put notes on my doors telling the driver to leave the package in the porch next to the garage. Friggin driver took the note but left the package on my front step in plain view of the neighborhood!!!!!
On top of that, it was raining that day, but the eaves of my house kept it dry.

I've had a dozen Fedex packages in the past two years and I don't even have to leave notes any more - the driver remembers my house and always places the package in the porch.

UPS was good for a while, but their quality is seriously dropping...

It all comes down to knowing your ups driver. on day's that i'm expecting something i'll work outside so that I can meet them at the truck and sign for it. after awhile they tend to figure out that you like to make sure that your stuff is signed for.

Why do I like FedEx? Because they are oodles cheaper than UPS.

                    FedEx has better product placement.
UPS has bigger trucks that do cool mid-traffic ***-to-*** space docking transfers (I kid you not, it's neat)

Tough call. I'm reminded of the following bash.org:

<Zenith> So I was at work today, signing for a package from UPS..
<Zenith> When the FedEx guy walks in with a package of his own.
<Zenith> And at that EXACT moment, a customer changes the channel to TBS and the Mortal Kombat movie is on, right when the fight theme music starts.
<Nigma> Did they break out into a delivery duel to the death?
<Zenith> I was prepared for parcel projectiles and fedex fatalities.
<Zenith> They eyed each other, and I knew something was about to happen...
<Zenith> But then the guy changed the channel to "Trading Spaces" and the fight was over.

they've been nothing but good to me actually...

I was expecting a package today and was unavailable at the time. I called them to schedule a will-call pickup (they're open here until 9pm) which they gladly and courteously agreed to do. Interestingly, about a half hour after I called, the same truck came by again to see if we'd come back, so I didn't even have to stop by the office.

Incidentally, all the couriers are sucking more than usual lately from the holidays. I say cut them some slack

During the holiday season, both carriers hire alot of temp help and let them go right after the rush is over.

I deal with UPS and FedEx alot, and though my experiences I would choose FedEx Express any day whenever I had the chance. FedEx does have a bad side though their ground service is horrible ( ground is a seperate company from express) , I mean like licking a trashcan horrible, I have had alot of issues with their drivers hitting on female employees , and even had one ground driver get in a fist fight outside my office with his partner who was tagging along with him.

Well I have a few tales to tell about UPS and Fedex and you be the judge.

A few years ago I had a geek toy (can't remember what it was) overnighted UPS and I wasn't home so they left the note. So I signed the note and told him to leave the next day. He left another note that said I had to sign for it in person, or it could be held for pickup. So I left the hold for pickup note and on the 5th day, I got my overnight package.

Fast forward to this week. I work for a tech company and we buy a lot of Dell equipment. We had a sales guy get his laptop stolen and we overnight UPS's a replacement to here so I can image and send it to him. The ups tracking information says that it is sitting in a UPS warehouse about a mile from us but they will not deliver it until "MONDAY". Talk about worthless.

I am in atlanta and we got a Fry's electronics store here a couple of months ago. Sunday they had a sale for 250 gb ide drives for $99. I bought two of them and needed a USB enclosure for one. Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 I ordered a case from NewEgg ("THEY ROCK") and Fedex got it yesterday morning at 7:30. It is on the truck for delivery now and should be here in about an hour. The catch, I had it shipped Saver which is there 3 day air service. I was expecting it on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

FEDEX is cheaper and they provide consistently better service.

                            My 2 cents

Well in the end, UPS made it right. After an angry call to their national customer service line at 7:15 last night to register a complaint and to have the package held at the shipping hub. Not that it was easy to have it held since I didn't have the little "We tried to delivery your box" code from the little yellow sticky since they didn't leave one. But the guy on the phone figured it out and had the box held, then registered my complaint. No more than 4 minutes later the manager of the local shipping hub called me to apologize and said he'd be there for another 45 minutes or so if I wanted to come pick up the box tonight. He told me he missed the driver who skipped out on me but talked to his manager to make sure the matter would be dealt with the next day. I drove up to pick up the package, sure enough the guy was waiting for me with it in hand and was very polite about the whole thing.

I like FedEX service too. The only problem is if they have to leave a package I have to drive 20 minutes to pick it up. UPS is only a 5 minute drive. The Postal Service is the cheapest and most convenient for that sort of thing but if I have to sign for something with them I have to pick it up by 5.
