Okay, sorry. I know I shouldn't do that, but couldn't help myself.
I know what it's like when my car breaks down...
Did any of you hear about the Northwest Airlines maintenance workers strike a few months back? NWA filed for bankrupcy a few days later and hired cheap scabs to replace the strikers! The union recently settled to get thier (former) employees unemployment benefits!
I don't have too much pity for unions. Let's see software engineers form a union! You'd hear the laughter for the next decade. And yet our jobs are being farmed out to cheaper countries in droves....
According to the definition of "domestic terrorism" under the U.S Code, Title 18, Chapter 113B, Sec 2331, Paragraph 5(A) and 5(B)(i) and 5(B)(ii), it seems that the TWU could be charged as terrorists:
(5) the term ``domestic terrorism'' means activities that--
(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a
violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any
(B) appear to be intended--
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by
intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass
destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of
the United States.
I'm not all for big brother and such and saying that they should be charged in this manner, but it looks to me like the union's actions seem to fit the bill.
