  • Recieved a call from Car Audio and Electronics Mag...

I'm REALLY excited and just needed to share!

As some of you know, Monte and I compete in Car Audio competitions on a national level with my CarPC and GTi stereo.

We went to World Finals back in October in Kansas City, MO and brought home first place and best of show for our class. First year out competing in the Sound Quality aspect of the competition. Needless to say, we were pretty happy with that.

Focal and Audison have since offered to sponsor us (just recieved a $1k set of 6.5 Beryllium mid-range drivers for free!!!).

While at world finals last year, Ben Oh from Car Audio and Electronics Magazine approached me and wanted to take my picture for their world finals coverage issue. So I got a 1" x 1" picture in the rag. Nothing big, but we were really happy, after all, it's just our first year out to compete really seriously with a system we built 100% in our garage in spare time. The only things we paid to have done was the paint work and the vinyl.

So I get a phone call from Ben last night, he had lost my information and had to call Focal to get that information again. They want to come out and do a photo shoot/story on the car and us! WOW! That alone is very flattering. Makes all the hard work and the effort we put into the car that much more worthwild!

THEN he invites us to attend Trifecta with the car. This is an invite only car show, with the best vehicles in each class being invited to attend SEMA with their vehicles!!! OMG! I don't even know where to begin! I couldn't sleep last night! Now I've got like a million things running through my head about what we need to do to prepare for the upcoming season...

anywho, I am just excited and just wanted to share!

thanks! means a lot coming from someone like yourself!

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I can tweek and tune, etc on the car before all this happens.

For the system, not much, might switch to the new Audison LRx amplifiers when they make it out in April. And put the mids in kicks...

Other than that, trying to figure out what to do about wheels and some new seats...lol

Jan, please accept my apologies! I guess I made the stupid assumption that because there are more guys in this than gals, I said what I said. With that, I congratulate you that much more for making it as big as you did in a predominately male hobby. Prop's to the women of the world that do what guys say can't be done by a woman!

                            no need to hate!

see, I'm going to say this, but I don't want to be rude....

I worked my *** off for the past 8 years to get to where I am right now. I competed fairly seriously in SPL for 6 years, never more serious because I couldn't afford it. I managed to get a few sponsors back then, but nothing major (Treo was one of them that might sound familiar to some on here). I've spent countless hours, money, and efforts to get here. I'd dedicated to going t shows, even if they are 20 hours away. I try and get others involved and I try and help out when I can if someone has questions.

To just hand off my rewards to someone else, especially to someone who is so new to the game, well, it would be hurting myself to do that.

If you want to be sponsored I have a few tips for you.
                            • You're going to have to spend the money up front, no wary around that. You have to spend a lot of money to get to this point. Kinda like an education, you have to spend the money to get a good education, then you'll be educated enough to make it all back and then some...
                            • Companies don't want to sponsor someone they don't think will do them good. There are a lot of people out there who just want free product. They will get that free product then drop off the face of the earth and never be seen or heard from again, until they want more stuff. You have to be dedicated to showing your car, to competing, and to keeping it well maintaintd and updated.
                            • Many times in this sport, you have young guys who are really really really interested, at the same time, those are the same guys who like to party HARD. Companies aren't going to want to have their name plastered on the car that's doing all the stupid ****, and who'se owner is getting thrown in jail thanks to public intoxication (I'm not saying this is anyone on here - it's just an example). Companies want someone who is repsectible and who will do their name good.
                            • Getting in with the right people will just help your situation along that much quicker. Who you know does a lot for you. I just happened to be good friends with Chris Pate before he started to get REAL serious with this stuff. We worked together and partied together. We both competed. He works for a shop and does this stuff for a living, naturally he's going to have more connections than me. He passes some of those on to me when he can. Again, it's who you know.

All I can really say is LEARN, get involved, and HAVE FUN! Some people get into it only to realize that they hate it, others thrive on it. I'd suggest trying it and see what you think, you never know, it might be the best thing you've ever done!
