Hey whats up guys, I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. It is starting to really annoy me cuz Like every 20 or 30 mins the wireless connection is lost and has to search for it again, so basically i kicked off the internet everytime that happens, is there any solution to this?

I hooked up a 12V fan to mine when it was acting up in summer of 2004. Never had a problem with it since.
BTW, the fan is sitting atop of the router blowing air out of it.

Maybe it keeps disconnecting because my modem is ontop of the router blocking the fan!

I had that problem with SBC DSL, it would wig out every so often. It would even keep the connection, then not let anything through. This way, the hardware didn't see a disconnect, and I would be in the dark.

I have since switched to true bandwidth ( well, dry DSL ), maybe thats an option.

This is going on the assumption that the wireless aspect of your router is fine (unless you are out in the weeds with a laptop).

I have (2) wireless routers (1) Netgear (1) Airlink and I leave them open to anyone (I live in the country )...

try the fan if that doesnt work then try and turn off your turbo if you have it. If that doesnt work throw it out the window

Sounds like it just needs a firmware update.

                      Covad ( Top Tier )
it doesn't go over active phone lines, but Covad pays the bill to have the lines checked before install, and it uses the wires of the phone company, but it is a dedicated dataline ( much like a T-1 ).
It's costing me like $70 / mo for 1.5 down 380 up and 5 dedicated IPs (additional $10) The speed is constant, and it doesn't go through "filters" like some bandwidth providers and not a single port is blocked.
There are many companies re-selling covads lines, but it's better to go to the source.
I'm not sure where the term "Dry DSL" applies, but thats the nickname of it. If your DSL (at the router) requires ANY logon info, it's not dry.

                        WOW, $70 a month for 1.5 and 300, thats a rip off.
                        I get 15 down and 2 up for $49 a month.

LOL - sometimes you have no other options

                          I pay about $100 for 200Kbps down 64Kbps up
but its ether that or 19.2 bps modem speed -
                          and it disconnects every few

and I am happy to be able to get 200Kbps

                            it's the up I need ...
and to have "2" up for $49 wouldn't suit me

It's great bandwidth though, never have problems.

That's usually a signal strength problem. Best Buy carries (online and in the store) a replacement antenna (pair) that adds something like +5db (or thereabouts) of gain. I bought it and installed it on the same router as yours and it made a huge difference. My truck sitting out at the end of the driveway now stays connected to my router in the house until I power the computer in the truck off. Before, it would drop the connection several times in an evening.

By the way, when you configure that router you'll want to turn off the broadcasting of the SSID and limit the computers that connect to the router to only those computers whom you've specified their mac addresses in the router. And, of course, choose a good authentication schema (not WEP) which requires a key and encryption to connect.
