  • Discount Tire .com?

Hey, anyone think discounttire.com is cheap ****?

They offer free shipping and free mounting/balancing on tire/wheel packages. I'm thinking about dropping a grand just to give my little old cavvy a decent look. What do you guys think?

I've dealt with their brick & mortar stores before and always had good service.
Haven't dealt with the website, though.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

Actually they are rather expensive... find your tire at tirerack.com and print it off. Take it to Discount Tire, and they will match the price. On my last set of tires it was a difference of $30 a tire.
        Setup:
        Dynaudio 240GT
        PPI PC4100, PPI PC2350
        Zapco DSP6
        ADS DAC
        Testing new board (Albatron KI690-AM2)

If you're looking for a certain brand you may not have very many options. For instance, last time I checked, TireRack didn't carry Nitto tires, but discounttiredirect did.

ya'll are totally missing the point... Your not buying them from Tirerack... your gettting the price from Tirerack, and gettting Discount Tire to match it. You dont have to pay any shipping, and you dont also get the discount. You can then take the tires to your choice rinky dink place and have them install them for $40. For instance Kuhmo 711 for $85 on Tirerack, and Discount Tire wants $113 for them.

It's one thing to shop for tires, it's another to screw yourself out of any type of tire warranty. When you buy tires at 1 place, install at another that is exactly what you're doing. I've worked for all the major companies out there and hate seeing that happen to customers.

                  My recommendations for buying tires:

                  a) buy from tire rack, install at recommended tire rack dealer
                  b) buy from discount tire, install at discount tire
                  c) get a quote from Tire Rack, Discount Tire (installed prices) and bring it to a local dealer to see if they can match the price or get close. It's worth spending $20-40 more on a tire deal if it means the company will take care of the tire rotations and balancing for as long as you have the tires.

Bottom line, don't screw yourself on tire warranties by trying to save a few bucks on tires that cost $100+.

Tire balance needs to be done every 6,000 miles
Tire Rotation needs to be done every oil change (makes it easy to remember)
Wheel Alignment needs to be done every 12k on a standard vehicle, if it's a modified or lowered vehicle get it checked every 6,000 miles.
