  • MS Server 2003 help

Ok, I got MS server setup at my house. Now I have a linksys wireless router. I set the server up to be DNS and DHCP also. With the DNS, the server automatically fowards the requests to an actual DNS server.

Anyway, with my laptop, I have it setup to logon to my domain. So it logs on and get a IP from the DHCP from my server. Problem is, I still dont got internet on the laptop.

Now I can solve the problem by simpling changing the defualt gateway from 192.168.1.109 (the ip of my server) to 192.168.1.1 (the ip of my router). But is there anyway to get the DHCP to automatically change this to 192.168.1.1 so people who connect to my domain dont have to manually change settings?

I might have to explained the problem very well, so if you need more info, just ask.

first off, for nearly everybody, win2k3 server is by far overkill in a home environment unless you have some sort of extreme and unique case. I also highly doubt you legally own th elicense to it Two, If you have a router, that will do all you need for DNS and DHCP in a home environment. Although you didnt state it, my guess is that you want a sort of central file storage, known as a file server, which you can use nearly any operating system, just setup a shared folder and your done.

If however I am completely wrong, just change your DNS settings in the win2k3 server or disable/remove the router and have your server do everything. My best suggestion would be to purchase "Mastering Windows 2003 Server" by Mark Minasi.. you will not regret it. I have his Mastering Win2k Server book and its incredible.
Sell me your stuff.. please see what i'm looking to buy

Hi you need to go to the DHCP configuration utility and change the defaul gateway to point to your router instead of to your server. that way every time a client requests an ipp it will get the correct gateway IP
