      well I have emailed DAYCO thats the name on the box, but if those are stitches that hold the belt ends together.......

        could that be a join in the belt? If you are unsure, take that one back and buy a different one. It's probably the safest thing to do.

          found somewhere that is supposed to stock gates belts, I dont know if anyone has any views on them, but dayco is now off my shopping list in future.

            skip Dayco. Buy Goodyear if you can. Gates is ok, but still a lesser quality like Dayco.

              Many thanks for your email and your concerns.



              The bare threads that you can see on the belt are the nylon thread that is used in the manufacturing process of all of Dayco`s Timing Belts and is NOT a manufacturing defect and will NOT cause any failure. There are two ways of producing the sleeve for the timing belts one is by welding the ends together by using heat and the other is to stitch the ends together, Dayco adopt the stitching method as this is the strongest.



              Depending on where the belt is stitched the nylon thread is more visible (mainly at the top of the tooth).
