  • good place for web hosting and domain name?

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to set up a website for my Demo Reel (avi most likely) and my Resume as well as some other various things. I'm just not sure what a good company to go with is. I don't need them to design the webpage, i can most likely do that (if that makes a difference)

    any help here?

    thank in advance,

    scott

I have to second this one for Domain Names. Godaddy is great.

For Hosting, I've tried pretty much all of the players since 1998 and HostGator has been by far the best. I have a reseller account with them, so I have an ungodly amount of diskspace and bandwidth at a great price. That's where I host all my sites (to included W3bMa5t3r.com where the RR Installer and Updater are hosted), a couple State Gov sites, etc. In the past few years I've only had one MySQL server hang and it was fixed in less than a minute. They have a great live chat with their on site techs and have always been ready to help with anything.

hostgator is good, i know someone that works ther.

But for my hosting i colocate servers, i cant stand not being able to manage 100% of everything...

I have hostgator as well, I've had them for about a year now. never had any problems with them, prices are good. The only thing is that they are not the fastest host, their speed are good but not great.

Yep... and here's an email I received a few days back from them:
In an ever increasing effort to increase user experience at HostGator I'm happy to inform you that we have upgraded the server that
                              your account is on.

The servers have been beefed up with faster 3.2Ghz Intel Dual Xeon Processors with 800mhz bus speeds, 4 GB DDR2 Ram, and SATA2 hard
                              disks.

In English, this upgrade will simply mean that your sites will be on a more capable and powerful server. This should result in a
                              better experience for
                              visitors to your website.

We appreciate your continued loyalty and business with us,
                              The HostGator.com Team
