  • 2003 Ford Superduty OH Wood Console

Well, I do not have my TC anymore. I have had my truck for almost 2 years now.

The PC has been in it since I bought it but it was nothing fancy. Just the Xenarc 700IDT in the dash.

Well the diesel engine in my truck has rattled the monitor apart, it no longer latched shut, screws and nuts were litterally falling out of it. I got tired of it so I disected the monitor and housing and built it into an overhead console.

I have always liked the conversion van wood OH console look so I attempted to make my version. I think it turned out pretty well, the monitor isnt at the best viewing angle but its still plenty usable. There are a strip of LED lights in the cubby towards the back of the console that come on with the parking lights. I dimmed them down a bit because the were really bright running on a straight 12v.

I am waiting on some custom Contura Style switches to go in place of the 4 that are there now. There will be a row of 8 of those switches across which will fill that area completely.

As for the audio processing, I have the stock 6 disk CD player running into an Alpine PHE-X650 as well as the computer output. The processor feeds into a JL 300/4 and a JL 500/1. Those Feed the front speakers which are Boston Acuostics 6x8 component plates and the rears which are Infinity reference 6x8s. The subs are Elemental Designs Eu-700 6.5" subs. there are 2 of them in a ported box I made that sits behind the rear seat.

Ok, enough text, now some pics..................

Hmm, never thought of putting the screen up there. I'll have to think about it tomorrow when I'm a little more with it and study that area on the way to work.

      Looks good.

That's a really good idea. I assume you have wood on the dash as well...so do you have a pic of the whole dash?

I cant find any pics of the dash but its just a stock dash now. Its dark gray plastic. The only other wood in the truck is on the door panels, there is a burlwood pattern on each door over the armrest. The color doesnt match 100% but it all goes well together. I was thinking about coating the wood in resin and then having it dipped but the stain turned out pretty well I think so Im stickin with it for now.

Looks pretty good, and I'm glad to find another Ford diesel guy with a computer. Well mine is only about 75% installed but still fun. I got an 05 F350 crew cab. I have been delaying as long as I can cutting into the dash to fit a 10.4" screen since my dash has the wood grain and will be next to impossible to refinish if I mess up the cut or something.

The overhead console looks pretty good. Certainly a nice way to fit everything into the truck, and I too have always enjoyed overhead consoles too. I ended up cramming a Cobra 29 CB up into the factory console I have in mine.

Hard to tell but looks like your truck is Sonic blue, very nice color, got any more pics of the truck? Also I see you got gauges too, what have you done to the motor? Are you a member of any diesel forums? I read/post over on powerstrokenation.com

looks good for sure, hope it holds up better than it did in the dash.

I didnt think I could be the only ford superduty guy that had a computer. I found one other thread in here about a computer in a SD but that was it. Glad im not alone here! Sounds like your going far more extreame than I with that 10.4!

I thought about sticking my little scanner up there but didnt think of it until it was too late, and I didnt feel like starting over.

The truck is Sonic Blue, a rare color! I love it, I bought the truck used and when I saw the pic of it online, I knew it was my truck, I went in and bought it that day.

I dont have much done to the truck, I have a DP tuner, 6637 intake filter and 4" exhaust. Im thinking about some single shot injectors though. I dont want to rip into the engine too much. I want reliability at any cost. I have a long way until its paid off. The only truck forum I visit is ford-trucks.com

Yea I think the trouble was always looking and super duty dashes and thinking there was plenty of room to put a nice big screen in there lol. Nice big flat surface but it gets a bit more complicated. I am about half way through getting it installed.

Sonic blue is a rare color and a very sharp one indeed, probably how I could pick it out just from the little visible part around the door and know the name lol. I probably would have picked it up too on the spot. I was looking for a few other features and had to settle on colors, but it is growing on me, mine is maroon with silver two-tone.

Sounds like you got a good start on the mods for sure. DP tuner makes some nice stuff. So far mine is pretty much stock, least engine wise, I got a 4" lift with 35" tires and some stereo equipment along with the computer. The basic tuner/exhaust/intake/gauges will be my next step as the funds materialize.

I'm pretty much waiting till I go through with installing the screen till I post some pics up here, but hopefully won't be much longer down the road. So far I have an amp rack behind the rear seat holding 2 amps and the computer guts. Then up on the dash I moved the heater/ac controls down to the little cubby next to the steering column. This gives me enough room height wise for the screen along with a slot load dvd player and maybe a USB hub. I need to cut about 1/4" on each side of the radio opening from top to the bottom of the heater controls opening to get the right amount of width. Also I made a little fiberglass pod on the lower dash to hold a standard alpine HU, the upfitter switches and a trailer brake controller.

Hopefully the computer will last as long in my truck as it has yours.
