  • 2001 WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee (Ubuntu Mobile, Angel Eyes, Flowmaster 40)

Proud owner of a WJ (BTW if you need any thing about a 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee look @ WJJeeps.com)

What motivated me to post this thread is the install of my after market headlights. The replacement was brought to you by: multiple attempts of sanding, buffing, scratch-X, sanding, washing, sanding, 1000 grit, 1500 grit, 2000 grit, washing, scratch-X and... crying, spending $200 for new ones.

    Screen Bezel(updated 10/15/2009)

Done by Fine Line in Manteca, Ca

Installing Angel Eyes was extremely easy

The hardest part was pulling out the old ones out of the sockets (go to wjjeeps if you have never done it.)

Then used my current Sylvania lights that twisted in, and wire the LEDs to the fuse box (ALL 12v, resistors built in).

Here are the new vs old:

    Installed on the pass side

Both (LEDs Angel eyes only - Engine in "ON"

    (sorry about the shake)
    With Headlights (lights on)

Not Really MP3 related but here is the Flowmaster 40 i welded on (sound/video clips to come)

Other pictures will be added when I make the Screen permanent. I promise I will place it up top bc it it the main part of my JEEPUTER

Updated 10/15/09 - Added screen shots

I actually like the angel eyes, will have some on my car once done my retrofit, but halogen beams just arent made for a projector. You lose a lot of intensity. It may look cooler, but your light output just went down down down. Not to mention you now have huge hotspots for each projector.

Ideally you want it to be very intense (bright), sharp cutoff (dont blind people), and no hotspots (even light).

But if you're happy that's all that counts I suppose. However, once you figure out you have less light and want to up the lumens, kick anyone that suggests a pnp ebay hid kit, especially in a jeep. From that point you are in true HID retrofit land with OEM HID projectors with bright HID lights. If you put HIDs in a halogen projector, you still get blurriness, glare, hotspots, ect. Just arent designed for lots of lumens.

EDIT: Looking at your reflector on the driver, and projector on the passenger photo, your jeep's reflectors suck big time to begin with. So you may not notice a difference. I can't believe those stock reflectors are DOT approved!

          Main factor : coolness

I'll admit to the hot spots but the brightness is up. (I am a phototographer) my light meter was higher on the new one when I had installed the pass side.

The blinding people shouldn't be too big of deal bc the cut off is lower and cleaner than prev.

I agree with your hid statement.... The blue tint is REALY dumb and I put the installers in the same catagory as people who fart for attention.

In photo #2, you see how you can still pretty much see the main shape of the reflector on the wall? Well that is bad. The reflector should spread it out on the ground on the sides, and a little itty bit up high to reflect road signs. Yours is sort of like a square reflector projector thing, which is weird at best.

You have one of the few headlights I've seen that the reflector is worse than the ebay projector, hence why you saw more lumens on your meter.

And DOT is Department of Transportation. They must approve all headlight designs and are the ones that rule any HID kit being illegal and even any change to headlights from OEM is illegal and both can get you fined with a very very anal cop. So legally, your headlights are illegal, but my surprise was that the DOT let jeep put out a reflector with an output like that..

Well yeah, looking at it now the stock ones (drivers side) does have a huge hot spot, I think that's where there the reflector is that you are talking about. The haze really helped dimming the light too

                  Don't mind him, he's just jealous. j/k
I got around all that DOT and **** poor cutoff/hotspot by retrofitting DOT approved OEM E-36 assemblies. Takes some getting used to when trying to read road signs cause the beams are so low. And true HIDs make a hell of a difference. My problem now is matching color output with the angel eyes/driving lights/lowbeams/highbeams. Right now their 7K/6K/6K/8K, respectively. Hopefully by summer they will all be 8K.

I have a family connection to the CHP who can sign off those types of tickets. But right now the only reason I thought they were illegal was bc the turn signals are clear instead of amber. Which I am buying tommorrow.

Also, stop editing your posts bc I look like a jerk for having 2 posts In a row

I sometimes hit alt+s before I am ready so I just keep typing before the 1min deadline for the edit to appear.

And I have threads where I have like 6 posts in a row!

well i think they look really nice. I know how those stock jeep lights can get with that haze and sun burn. I am not sure how bad the stock ones were, but i can imagine..It looks like you have done a respectable job attempting to clean them up. So i would like to see some pics of the Ubuntu mobile in the car.
