The longest part of the whole thing...waiting. Of the 8 things I'm waiting for, 4 of them are in. Next week everything will be in by Thursday. Hope I can have everything in the car by Saturday the 9th of January.

          answer moved over to here.

Pelican -- Pelican Parts is place where quite a few P-car owners hang out. Mostly, air cooled, earlier models. Also, lots of experience hanging around there too.

            Software is done

I’m finish with the software side of things. Everything works better then I hoped for. Now only if this MCS PC works as well as the laptop does. I’m still waiting on the PC to come in; it should be in on Wednesday. If I had to find something wrong with the setup it would be GPS. I could use a better GPS software package. I’m running Microsoft’s Streets and Trips 2010. Problem with this software is its UI or lack of one. The program really hurts for a UMPC UI. Because of this I can’t do a quick POI. I really want to buy the Garmin software but the last time it was updated was 2008. For what I would pay for it, it’s not worth the investment to me. So I'm still looking for something.

Other than that software is done. Everything is running fine in the frontend.

              The problems start

Last night I made some mock ups of the MCS PC and the new pioneer amp… tried them today for placement… not good.

The amps are to big together to place next to each other. The PC is too big to place under the seats. The factory Bose amp is too small; so I can’t use its space… looks like I going build a freaking chest for the trunk… not happy about it. But there is just no space in the car.

                  waiting on one part

Almost everything is in. The PC doesn't have an AC adapter so I order one over night. The second amp is suppose to come in on Thursday. I thought I would finish the project this weekend. Due to the fact I'm doing the 2010 Polar Bear Run (car rally) this weekend I may not install it into the car... but I'm a big kid with new toys.

side note I added a Asus - 8x External Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive Model: SDRW-08D1S-U this will go in the glove box.

                    Everything is IN!!!

Finally everything is in. Installing windows 7 (x64) ultimate right now. let the fun begin... This will be a lonnnnng wait. ultimate is a very slow process on a dual core atom. Guess I will go finish watching the BCS Championship (pulling 4 bama).

                      Problems still coming...

This dual core takes so long to install stuff. I'm STILL installing. this PC has two minds. Sometimes its very responsive and sometimes its a snail.

                      Overall base score is 3.3.

I haven't optimize the start-up so there's some of my problem. Also the BIOS splash screen is up way to long.

Let me ask, why did you go with 64 bit version? A lot of stuff will not work on it. No CF, no RR, and what not. I think your going to have alot of headaches as far as compatibility.

In my opinion x64 is a better OS then x86. x64 handles multi cores OS better than x86. Plus x64 you can use more ram than x86. I know that I'm only using 4gb of RAM, but x64 allows me to see and use more of it. I'm not sure why CF and RR didn't run for you but both ran fine on my x64 win7U laptop with no problems. I'm not sure if I had to set the compatibility. I do know I had both running without problems. I almost use CF3 for this build but it (software) had its limits. In the end I force myself to try MCE, in the end, it was no contest. MCE is the best frontend FOR ME. Like I said I almost bought CF3.

                            update on problem "coprocessor"

My main problem was that win7u didn't reconize my gpu. The problem was shown as "coprocessor" After downloading the latest NVIDA drivers, that fixed my overall slowness of the PC. I think win7 was trying to use the gpu as a second cpu. That would explain why the PC was sooooo slow. Even the Boot up was effected by this. I also setup the PC for multi-core boot. I can tell a difference.

                              Problems running MCE

I'm running MCE as my frontend. I changed the overall look of MCE. After a day of transferring music, I have 858 albums on the PC. I had some troubles with codecs with MCE. After a while on the net, I can now play m4a, mkv, acc, ect.

The plug-ins I'm using is mceWeather, MediaBrowser, and OneVoice.

mceweather is a easy free weather app for mce.
MediaBrowser is my Movie app that allows fanart and metadata for movies.
OneVoice is my voice control plug-in that controls MCE (greet for album search)

858 albums is where you need 4gb of RAM.
OneVoice startup takes about 2 mins. This is very slow to startup but if you play a music track or video it helps you forget about the slow startup. Once its up and running it works fine. If I had to find something wrong with this software its that it doesn't work 100% of the time. It works (finding song, artist, ect) about 85% of the time. I will gladly take that, working with 858 albums.
