  • My avrmp3car - StandAloneMP3 Player - now GPL licensed

    Hi all,

perhaps you are interested in my Standalone MP3 Player suitable for car usage. It is now licensed under GPL.

    Here are some features:

    - suitable for car
    - 240*64 pixel graphic/text display
    - IDE harddisk up to 128gb (certainly more than 128gb - but untested)
    - FAT32 + windows long filenames
    - vol, bass, treble control
    - directory function with sorting
    - global filesearch
    - playlist (max. 500 entries)
    - shuffle, repeat
    - ID3, bitrate, frequency display
    - importing of winamp playlists

unfortunately my page is in German - you can either use an online web translater or persuade me to translate it for you

At the moment you can only download the eagle 3.55 (www.cadsoft.de) schematic and board but the software will be available this weekend.

    Here are some pics:

I made the project public now because it was hidden since 2000 somewhere on my harddisk and I think it is sad if it is forgotten forever ...

Perhaps I should mention that there are known bugs and restrictions

              - possibly error when using an ide cable which is too long
              - with 6MHz only up to 192KBit - with overclocking to 8MHz it reaches 224Kbit
              - the contrast of the display depends from the car battery voltage - but it's stable with 13.8V input

              restrictions:
              - music is switched of when browsing through the directory - controller doesn't have so much power to do expensive graphic operations and play music at the same time

              Possibly problems concerning used parts:
The controller ATMEGA103 is possibly not longer available - but there are successor types which are compatible and a lot faster! (16MHz) - 16MHz could be even enough to make it possible to play music while being in the directory function - and up to 320kbit
I used the MP3-Decoder MAS3507 and the DAC3550A - this parts are possibly not longer available either...

              Experimental software:
The software which is used in avrmp3 is completely written in Assembler - I started to write the software new again in C (which looks better but it has never been finished yet. FAT32, Directory Function and some other features work - but the player doesn't play music with this software.
This is only important for the experimental C software - the ASM software works quite well ...
