  • 2003 Nissan Altima

Been working on my carputer for over 2 years now and i have had about 4 different versions, let me know what you think.

Version3 with an 8" lilliput was scrapped because i thought the screen looked out of place, i used a laptop under the passenger seat in this setup.

    New install on page2

        Version 4

In Version4 i switched to a 7" lilliput, i cut the buttons off my factory radio and molded it into the bezel. The buttons are hooked to the computer via a hacked up keyboard and the volume knob is actually a 8way directional switch and rotary encoder, hooked up to a mouse for the rotary function and a keyboard for the directional function.

        PC SPECS
Amd xp 2000+ in Asus A7n8x-vm400
        512mb ddr266
        Bu-303
        Xm direct
        Iguidance 2.0
        Fm radio Mouse
Steering wheel controls to change volume and tracks also a Push to talk button to activate navivoice.

        Need to buy
        OPus 150
        New 4 channel amp

I am currently working on version5 which will hopefully be that last one, i will have some in progress pictures which i will put up in a few days.

Thanks i will put some more pics later on tonight. I use to have the computer between the rear fender and a brace in the trunk. It was in there for over a year till i decided to relocate it.

i got rid of the 8" because i wanted more of a factory look, plus the buttons makes things a lot easier when driving and now i can live without them but at times i do miss the size of the 8".

Do you have any details on how you made the 8-way/rotary switch? Where did you get the control?

                    Excellent work!

wow, i like them both. you're going to be disappointed with a 4 channel if you stay with stock speakers. i know I am. you're going to have to end up getting all new speakers and a sub, probably a head unit too to replicate that dynamic sound that comes stock. show us some more on the controls you made.

Thanks i will have some more info on the controls in the link on my previous post. I have actually had a memphis 4 channel amp on my stock speakers for the last year and a half, at first i was very dissapionted then i added a clarion eq and now is sound pretty decent but it will never come close to my old alpine radio. I install car audio for a living so the audio part of the project is the least worries, but once i get done with the computer part of the project i will work on the audio.

Thanks a lot i have the computer fixed to the brace by some bolts, i have had it in there for bout a year and never had any problems even with the high temperatures we get over here in Houston. The computer has been powered by and inverter and itps for the the past year and it works great, i just never came around to getting an opus because the computer was never in my car long enough before i started rebuilding my bezel, so i used and old p3 laptop most of the time.

great work! love the use of the stock HU controls, you got me thinking. Did you just remove the bottons from the deck or the whole face of the deck with the buttons? I am geussing it is the latter.

Personally I like the look of version3 better, but that is just me. You can make more space if you push the vents up, (although it is alot more fab work) I have a 10.4 being installed in that spot, you should be able to get the 8" lilli and your radio controls in there.

cant wait to see how it finishes up.
