  • 1st ever Skoda Octavia Carputer

hi after reading these boards for a while i thought i would give it a try, as of this afternoon i now have a fully working computer in my 2000 skoda octavia but i thought i would be a bit different as i couldn't bring myself to run something as slow as a EPIA board along with there high prices's and sweat shop build quality, so here goes...

    PC_CHIPS p3 1.5gig atx-flex board 32 ---Maplins
    512mb Twinmos RAM 20 ---Ebay
    16x DVD RW 39 ---Ebuyer.com
    180gig Seagate hd 80---Ebuyer.com
    7" fully motorised in-dash touch screen 89---Ebay
    ATI Remote bob 17---Atx-warehouse
    M1-Atx 90w psu 24---Atx-warehouse

using Media-car as a front end and xp-corp with sp2 stripped down to only 175mb it runs like hell and loads in under 20 seconds , it allows me to play dvd.divx,mp3 internet and gps and most games i throw at it,
i might add i have been running it for about a month off a car charger now before fitting it.

I will add some pics as soon as i get a chance in the morning

Motorised in-dash touchscreen for 89???? that is about the price of a non-motorized, non-in-dash lilli, no?

Was it used or was it bashed up?

i will take some pis in the morning, i have still gotta fit the gps and put the front back on the glove box where i have fitted everything, only good thing having the screen on the dash and computer in the glove box is there is not 1 wire to be seen anywhere or ugly inverters in the boot or under the seat, the way i have got it wired is that when i close the screen it auto shuts down the computer or goes into standy if i choose

Today i got bored with the normal 2 channel sound so i thought i would install a usb soundblaster audigy and it sounded i little better, but now being content with that i noticed that the touchscreen headunit i have has ac3 input on the back, once done i thought i would try something out on it.......

I tried playing The Two Towers and OH MY GOD there are people fighting around my head in my car now lololol , just 1 job to do now and that is to fit a small center speaker into my dash to get the proper affect. plus tomorrow i'm going to figure out how to change the settings on roadrunner and mapmonkey so that the directions on the gps only come out of the center speaker so that it does not distract from the music if that works i can also get my mobile to use that speaker aswell.
