  • Finally a working PC in my car!

After years of reading, posting, planning etc I finally have a PC running in my car!! PC is an EPIA M10000 running of an 90W OPUS. It is located in my front trunk for now, not the final install but the final position. Haven't hooked up audio yet, for reasons I'll not go into an FM modualtor is my only choice, that'll go in this week some time. GPS is working, MP3 next, then various web services I want to set up to download weather, traffic etc.

Here's a quick pic, screen is a DWW-700M, I found I could read it even in sunshine with the roof down (limited testing so far though).

Very solid, assuming you mean does it bounce around...? Don't usually watch it during hard cornering though.

My car has, as well as four DIN slots, a spare harness under the dash designed to power a phone kit. With a $10 harness I got live, ignition and ground right behind it.

I added a 9 pin Molex connector as this harness is now powering my radar detector, screen and soon my FM modulator too. The screen needs ignition, live and ground, the harness in question runs through a 7.5A fuse in the regular fuse box. I blew a fuse when first installing but it has run fine since.

Oh, brigtness.... seems fine, I could even read it pretty well with the roof down in bright sunshine. This picture was taken driving with the roof down.

Here you go, although the head unit was out at the time. As you can see the screen covers the AC/Heater controls but it's no big deal, I rarely if ever use them.

The cable in the cig lighter is for a light I was using, it isn't for the screen or PC.

That's what's going to happen in my truck. The pop-out screen will cover HVAC controls.

Did you do the clock/light mod? If so, hows the difficulty?

Yes. It's pretty easy, although be clear what your expectations are, it makes testing much easier. I thought at first that after the mod the clock backlight and eject button light would come on with the ignition, this is not the case. It's all dark until you open the screen.

It's fine, it's just that I took it apart half a dozen times checking and re-checking expecting lights to come on with the ignition.

Yes, the monitor has TV too although I'm not using it. What is the TZL screen? I haven't heard of that one.
