  • 1997 neon, 7" touch screen, epia V in the trunk

When ahead and threw the system in this weekend. Very much roughed in right now but it is a start. I'm finding it good to actually use the system for a while to figure out what heights and angles work best for me.

Not bad, that screen is just BEGGING to be stolen though. Especially in a neon.

"Look at me! I'm expensive! And you can see me all lit up when I pull into a parking lot! And I'm in a car that most likely has no security at all! Steal me! Steal meeeee!"

Absolutely. I've been umounting it and putting the screen in the trunk. But yeah, theft is a major concern of mine.

Yeah, I've started to dremel out the dash. My plan is to cut a hole where the AC vents are. This is a pretty good height for me. I'll attempt to reroute the AC at the same time.

                screen roughed into dash

Screen roughed into dash and wires run under the carpet. This will probably be my setup until i get some time to learn how to do fiberglassing.

XM roady 2 modification / install

Added an external selection switch control to the Roady 2 while I try out XM. Obvisouly, this will not be my carputer integrated solution.

Southern CT. Fairfield county. I'd be up for going between here and MA for a meet though

with that screen r u gonna put bondo or anything to make a nice smooth mold? if so...theres something u can do about theft.
hot glue some razor blades behind it...when someone trys to rip it out, there gonna leave some blood stains. easy way yto see who did it, not a lone a very funny way to see how angry one will get for stealing your stuff.

my brothers friends dd that to his eclipse. put it hehind all his gauges and headunits.

Yeah, clearly the next step on the hardware front is to do something about the screen. I agree that will be huge to prevent theft. Basically, I have no experience doing fiberglass / bondo work so there will be a bit of a learning curve there.

Also, I think that the neon might not make it much past this winter. I burns oil, idles hard. So I'm starting to look at new cars.

The idea of making a cage, fiberglassing it, and doing all the finish work does not seem as appealing if the car dies a week after I do all that!

But, the whole point of me doing this to the neon was that I could make mistakes, learn, etc - so I'll probably do the fiber/bondo work in there so that I do a better job in the new car.

                              Thanks for looking...
