  • Acura TSX Install with amp, sub, indash screen

This project has been complete for a while, but I just got around to posting the pics. A big "Thanks" to all of you on this forum, there is no way I could have done it without you.

The car is a 2004 Acura TSX without the Nav option. Part of my goal was to install this in a non-destructive way, and I pretty much suceeded with that. I had to drill a few holes in the trunk liner, but otherwise I could remove everything and put the stock parts back. Pics are posted below, but if you are interested in more detail I have more pics with descriptions Here: http://www.vanderwoude.net/gallery/TSX

    Summary:
    Via Epia M-10000 MB
    512 Ram
    Morex 3688B case
    Opus 90W - outrigger mount
Lilliput 7" VGA touchscreen with fabricated install
Screen powered off Opus 12V via relay (Key off -> screen off)
Dash piece includes USB hub and switches
Auxillary 12V->5V DC-DC regulator to power USB Hub (relayed by 12V off Opus)
    Creative Live! USB External soundcard
JL Audio e4300 4ch amp (2 channels to front speakers, 2 bridged to sub)
JL 10W0 sub in custom enclosure (fiberglass)
Alpine Type S 6.5" component speakers mounted in stock speaker locations
Audio out to stock headunit, all dash and steeringwheel controls still functional.
KnuKonceptz 4 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit and distribution blocks
USB GPS (BU-353) mounted under rear deck: reception is great
USB XMPCR for XM radio antenna under rear deck: reception good not perfect
USB 802.11G mostly for sync with my MP3 collection (23G and counting)
    OBD-II serial interface

A lot of work, but I enjoyed doing it, and enjoy using it.
If I can do it, so can you!

I've had 2 TSX loaner cars and each time I looked at that space with the storage bin I thought it would be perfect for a screen. Very nicely done.

          '04 Buick Rainier, factory nav
          '99 Honda Shadow 1100

-8" Lilliput TS, laptop, (too) large inverter, and I'm nowhere near putting them anywhere.

Did you use the cables from the cat5 as relays for your on/off reset etc?

Check out the diagram with the rest of the pics (linked above). Basically, I took out the stock rear deck 6x9's (used as subs in this car) and ran the speaker out to the speaker level input for channels 3&4 on the amp.

Yeah, that was the plan. I ran a cat5 from the front to the back just to have it there if I needed it. When I decided to add buttons to the dash/screen piece, I thought: use a piece of cat5 and a jack so they can "quick connect". I never hooked them up. The right button was swapped out for a switch hardwired to the acc line on the opus. Switch off->opus off after a delay. I use it like a Valet switch anytime I don't want the computer starting up.

Yes, follow the link in the first post. There are a bunch of pics, including one of the dash pre-install.

I'm looking to install subwoofers to my 2004 acura TSX. What wires will i exactly need to do this. An Amp Kit, Speaker Wire, anything else? the guy in the audio section said i may need RCA wire, or RCA ports? will i have any problems installing the subs directly to the stock stereo system?

                              Power wire routing?

I am looking to put my subs in my '04 TSX. When we took a first peek, we didn't see an obvious best choice for running the power wire from the battery to the truck (through the engine bay firewall). How did you run yours? Could you show some pictures? No one seems to show pictures of their power runs anymore! I have only found one from a guy who ran his outside the car...a bit more than I am able/willing to do to my car

                              Thanks!
