  • 87 Turbo Buick CarPC/Touchscreen Install Project

Here's what I've got done sofar to my interior... The carPC i'm using is actually an old P3 machine that I retrofitted and isomounted into my own casing. The touchscreen is an 8" Xenarc unit and fits quite nicely into the stock radio/CC area, much to my surprise.

    Interior:

I use the PC to run a Roadrunner based media player (I still have to tweak the skins), program some microcontrollers for my alky and boostcontroller, and to program/monitor the Gen7 incar. Sorry if the pic quality isn't too great... I'll take better ones with a decent camera when I button everything up in there. I will post more as I finish more stuff up.

    Body/Engine:
(This is the real fun of the car BTW )
    old mockup phase pic:

Again, im sorry for the phone pix, but my camera is out of order at the moment. I'll repost with some good ones.

I'll have to take some better pix for you guys... since your interested n all :P.

The engine has just recently been finished by my brother and I. He does most all of the welding, esp on the critical aluminum pieces. It is a standard V6 109 block, 3.8L, 231+ 030 over, J&E's, Crower Rods, Eagle Crank, 3/4" billet steel girdle, Race ported heads (me!), and some other goodies. THe turbo is a GT42 and if you havent noticed the size from the pic, it is HUGE. Probably not the best choice for most ppl on the street, but I love it in that application. Take someone for a ride and floor it... nothing, nothing, nothing, (they think... hmmm, this is pretty slow for all that shiny stuff I saw under the hood) then WHAM! You ain't getting outta that seat. Sofar it's set at 10# of boost (I'm still in break-in). I couldn't even imagine any higher than that on the street. The ECU is an Accel Gen7 that handles all of the engine management. The software is called Calmap and any aspect of the engine can be tuned/changed, and loaded into the ECU while it's running. It also has a 'real'-time std display for all the critical operating points, timing, knock, wideband level, temps, etc... in a nicely laid out GUI with "virtual gauges", so that's cool too.

Oh and for the record, the car is a "Regal Limited": was a granny's car... ragtop, silver, all aluminum trim everywhere. Got the car with a V8 and popped headgasket for $300 3-4 years ago when I started the project.

I gotta get some better pix

it does look really close to a grand national. minus the missing embems. so you made a regal into a national huh? lol. messin with ya. it looks nice man, a few more pounds of boost and some traction compound and it looks like alot of fun.

takes a moment for the turbo to wind up eh, my brothers work truck is like that to, its a turbo diesel, but when he floors it for a split second its just raw engine power, and then when you hear the wistle you kno wwhat comming, that truck is so powerful, but the turbo is nothing compared to that monster

Here is the new link with decent pics and completion:

And yes the spoolup is quite slow without any tbrake or 2step help... Higher RPMs (downshifting etc...) get it up there quickly though. Fun fun fun...
