  • 2001 C5 Corvette Car Computer/Audio System

    After a long period of working nights, plenty of mistakes, and just a flat out TON of work, a friend of mine, and myself designed this system, built it, and are now about 95% complete. It really shows how you can combine a car computer with a sound system.

    Finished Installation pictures:

    The basic rundown of the system is:

    JL Audio:

    * (1) 1000/1
    * (2) 300/4
    * (2) 12W6v2
    * (2) 8W3v2
    * XR653-CS 3-Way Component system per door

    Alpine:

    * PXA-H701
    * RUX-C701

    KnuKonceptz:

    * (3) 2 channel RCA cables
    * 0-AWG power wire
    * 4-AWG power wire
    * 8-AWG power wire
    * Speaker Wire

    Car Computer:

    Revolution Systems Innovado Mobillo Car PC

    The Mobillo PC feeds the audio signal via an optical output (no audio loss to interference) to the Alpine Multimedia Manager. The Alpine unit distributes the signal to 3 seperate JL Audio amplifiers.

    The amplifiers power a 5-way (10 speaker) audio system consisting of:

    - Three sperate drivers PER door (1" tweeter, 4" midrange, 6.5" midbass)

    - Two 8" 8w3v2 subwoofer

    - Two 12" 12w6v2 subwoofers

    Also, we went through a few hundred pound of B-Quiet Ultimate in the process of putting this system together.

    To view them, go to http://community.webshots.com/user/jleacu . Any response/criticism/your $.02 is definately appreciated and welcome.

    The monitor in the front console is a K301 touchscreen VGA USB monitor; it has 2 composite (RCA) inputs, and (1) rear view camera composite. It is motorized, and so far has been working great. We have been VERY pleased with the visual quality of this unit.

    Nice, looks real good.

    The few things i dont like is that the blue suede sorta clashes with the bright red color of the car. But its looks awesome aside from that.

    Also, you went through the effort of molding the alpine controller into the dash but at the same time i would have molded a screen into the dash and gone away with the motorized unit.

    But take that as a grain of rice because overall its a great build!

    Also Use a front end if you dont have one. check out streetdeck, you pay for it but you get what you payfor!

      Ahh yes, we do have road runner running, because winamp makes a good backend.. as for the flip out, it is unrivaled in viewing angle to any of the other non motorized units, and it was cheaper too.. worked out nice if you ask me. If you see the car in reality, the blue doesnt really clash, it's hard to describe, cause it looks a little brighter (the blue) in the pictures.

      at any rate, thanks a lot for your comments, feedback is always appreciated.

          First off, awesoom looking install, top job.

          Second and my main reson for the post. How did you find the JL XR653-CS. I was thinking of getting these for my car. What is the bas like on them as I am considering doing a cut down install and maybe not installing a proper sub, i dont want anything that will shake the car, just something with some sharp crisp base.

          Thanks

            The XRs we got *gasp* online, but thats just because i really have a tough time paying the mark-up to an install shop when we do our own installation. great speakers though. The bass is pretty much on par with any other of JL Audio's 6.5"s, dont expect pounding, but it does add a little more dimension.. i would definately reccomend a proper subwoofer. When i first got my truck I had 6.5s in it and no sub, and just a 10" W0 changed the sound completely. The Vette here had 8" bose subs in the door, and we didnt even find that to be satisfactory, but of course they were blowse and the were free-air. My reccomendation is always to get at least a 10 for good bass.
