  • 2001 Toyota Solara (In Progress)

Ok this is my first attempt, so dont be to harsh. I'm having a blast doing it though. The biggest issue so far has been the lilliput screen. I thought I killed it. When I reassembled it it was dead. The problem was the ribbon cable that connects the buttons.

    ok here we go...

Pulling the cover off was surprisingly easy. I actually started doing it while driving home from work

Here it is all purdy b4 I #$@! it up

Same here... before I pull out the scalpel

    This stuff is the shiznit!

    Ready to seal up

Close up (I customized the cool bongo skin via Photoshop..Thanks Bongo Dude!)

    Far away shot.

    Installed!

Another pic. The smudge really shows up in the picture. doesnt look bad in person. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the plastic? its plastic cement.. I underestimated how well it would work... my bad! :P

Still working on figuring out how to auto power the screen on. I dont have the same model as the solder method demo shows. I'm hoping that I have the programmable one. AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT MINE WAS PROGRAMMABLE!
I have to run the wires for the amp and mount everything in the trunk. Then I should be good to go!... AMP IS MOUNTED! (STILL NEED TO MOUNT THE COMPUTER, BUT THE CASE IS DONE) PIX TO COME

    Das it for now!

    Peace

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes I painted the lilliput. You can buy paint at Home Depot for 5 bucks. It has the texture inside it. I can post the brand name if you like. I'm at work now so I will have to do it tonight

There's a mod for some lilliputs to auto power-on by changing a setting in the menu. I forgot how exactly since I did it to mine a loooooooong time ago, but you should be able to find it by searching.

is that an onyx 1640 in the background I see?

I want to get one of those but right now i'm stuck with my 24-channel peavey (gross)

doesn't look bad, but you might be able to duraglass that in, and make that look amazing.

even without the paint, the lilli texture/color is almost identical to the solara dash.

                makes it real easy nah?

good stuff so far! let me know if you have any questions about the solara..

I used to live in socal - man we'd have had a blast doing this together!

                keep it up!

Duraglass is similar to bondo with fiberglass in it, it's easy to use like bondo, just much stronger.

                  what do you record?

oh cool. Maybe on my second attempt, or maybe if I get sick of looking at this one...

I record everything. My background is mainly rock, but I've done just about everything you can think of. My last project was a Hip Hop CD. I did the beats and recorded the artist.

                    How bout you?

BTW: I'm looking for an extension cable to take my monitor from the dash to the trunk. Any suggestions?

you can get some VGA extentions from best buy, places like that.

I record mainly vocals. sometimes my own, but typically female focals for trance-ish music.

I use a Shure KSM27, which I love to death.

I over thought that deal... Went to Radio Shack and picked up a 10 Ft VGA and a 10 Ft USB. Came home plugged it in. done

Can't go wrong with a sure. I use a rode NT2000. I'm pretty happy with that. I'm kind of wrapped up with my carputer right now, but we should share some tunes sometime.

                              what up dudes!
Thanks for the comments as always. Posted a few more pix. I have to make a few tweeks to the computer and Ill snap some pix of that. All and all Im pretty happy. The amp is mounted to the back seat. I made a case for the carputer. Just need to mount that. Im thinking some strong velcro aught to do it. I ran a usb extension to the front for the OBDII hook ups. I'm also going to use it for my Keyboard as well. The screen works fine, but I find there are times when I need the damn keyboard. I've seen some pretty cool mounts on the visor. I'll probably go that route. I switched from RR to StreetDeck. its badazz! Instant GPS! and it uses media player.

                              Thats all for now

                              Peace out!
