  • Thought I would share this install

I haven't installed the PC yet. I will need to switch out the screen. But I might not. If I use a Mac Mini, then I would use Front Row or Centerstage and use a remote control, going to an IR port. I'm not sure yet.

I haven't really done much to the car interior-wise for a couple of years. So I went ahead and installed the following items:

    - Honda wood and perforated leather steering wheel
    - 7 inch LCD screen in the double din spot
    - new head unit - am/fm/dvd/vcd/cd/mp3/aux in the Honda accessory din spot
    - headrest 7 inch screens

I did the best I could; I know some of the trimming around the screen could be better. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

How is that PYLE 7" screen?

I was looking to get one for a long time. Seems to have all the right features and priced right.

Is it bright enough? How's the Picture quality when you use VGA input?

The screen itself is pretty decent. Once you get it calibrated the picture is pretty nice. I got it for $260. The "RGB" input is the Chinese word for S-Video - it's not a true VGA input.

But for what I may do, using a MacMini with Front Row or CenterStage, I wouldn't need to worry about that, as I would be using a remote mouse or the Mac remote control anyways.

Don't use the built in AM/FM tuner on the screen - not that great. You can use it as a head unit for the car, but you will get much better sound out of a true head unit, which is what I installed below.

Now that's a very cool setup - The monitor looks really good man and I'm definitely feeling the idea with the radio - Nice job!

Thanks. I'm really trying to figure out a better way to trim the screen. I have some foam around it now, but I want to do something better. The Honda head unit face is larger than double-din, even though the unit itself is double-din iso size. So when you install the Honda head-unit, it has it's own face/trim that fills the space. How convenient. :-) I've tried a couple of double din install/trim kits from a distributor here in Phoenix and neither of them really fit in the space around the screen right.

Could you fit some sort of basic flat trim, in front of the LCD but behind the wood trim? Know what I'm getting at? Sandwich it between the two...basically just hiding the foam.

Could be a simple as some semi-rigid black pastic sheet that you cut. Of course, have to make sure the edges are nice...and make sure it stays in place.

Where would you recommend I pick up the plastic? Do you think I should start with a double-din trim kit and go from there?

I'd say look up ABS plastic sheets on ebay and go from there -
