  • 1991 300zx - windows media center

I started by buying the eby-701 lilliput 7 inch touchscreen on ebay. I only payed 175 for it brand new i think thats a good price the guy shipped extremly fast and has 15 left so go buy some. Then i molded it into my 300zx stock radio/heater vent bezel, heres the finished product:

I didnt have windows at the time when i took the pics but its all installed now so ill try and get some new ones up soon. Also i molded in a cd/dvd rom under the screen you proably saw it in the pics.

Great job molding the screen. It looks flawless from the pics. Have you had the screen running in your car yet? I have the same screen(we might have bought it from the same guy on ebay) and I noticed it didn't have very good viewing angles. I was wondering this because your screen is sitting at such an angle in the pics. I'm still working on my bezel and haven't seen it in action in the car yet.

As far as the viewing angles from what i can get the screen to show in my car a blue screen that says no input device it looks pretty good, but im not sure u can really go by that lol ill have to wait till the computers case comes in.

Like I said before, it looks good and excellent fabrication. The angle will be tough, I did try the one in my Z like that and the sun glare was bad, could not see anything.
Try it and post how it looks.
Mod with a purpose and enjoy the ride

that angle looks crazy.... we were going to do the same in my friend's 92 Z but haven't yet... the glare may pose a very VERY big problem

Yeah, I guess the both of us gotta cross our fingers. I spent a week+ on my bezel(and I hate sanding) and I really don't feel like doing it again. Everything looks good, I look forward to seeing how your car turns out.

i didnt think about that at all when i started molding it. I was just thinking about making it look stock and really clean but it was my first time molding a screen and you learn from ur mistakes so illl deffinitly put more thought into stuff like glare on my next project. I got t-tops also ahhhhhhh lol. Theres always the option of buying the mp3car anti glare touchscreen but its way over my budget. Ill let you guys know how it turns out and update with pics as soon as i get the computer case. I have it all hooked up in my room using a 12 dc power adapter to supply my psu lol works good though. Also alowed me to get my computer all set up for when its time to put it in the car, however im still new to how all these front ends work. Im confused on the navi is it built in and i just need a gps antenna or do i have to get a seperate navi program and the front end uses that. guess ill have to do some searching on these forums.

You can buy the Navi GPS antenna + software seperately. Many people on the forums prefer iGuidance, etc etc. If you want a bundle type thing and not worry about buying everything seperately, Microsoft makes a GPS Street Trips package, and Delorme does as well. That's software + GPS Antenna. Otherwise, i'm sure you can find a GPS antenna for ~$30-50 and the software can be blackmarketed on the internet for free, but just beware the software you find online more often than not is going to be older years, like 05/04/03

                *edit*
Actually in the 300zx you sit fairly close to the console anyways due to the curvature of it, as for viewing angle that's not going to be too bad, but the problem still will be the glare though...
