  • Project Double Vision - 2003 Honda CR-V Carpc

After lusting those CAR PC installs - I told myself I MUST have one in my 2003 Honda CR-V!

So, here goes my first carputer installation.

Please be gentle as I may not have the skills on what other's have achieve on their project.

I'm now sourcing a suitable fascia to cover the MDF and the gap between the aircon controls

Or I could try fabricating from an aluminium sheet.....whatever easier to work on.

I tried to cover the MDF frame the second time with PVC vinyl

a bit better looking now than just spray painting it - still not perfect though.

I've got to move -on and start with the carpc and other stuff.

First I need to remove the center cup holder/table - you have to remove the seat to gain access on the bolts

I forgot to take photos of the seat removal - should be straightforward and nothing to it

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first before disconnecting the airbag sensor under the seat and wait a few minutes.

Once the cup holder/table removed - lift the carpet and locate the holes on the subframe - see photos

I've inserted a 10mm bolts to check diameter

The Center cupholder taken-out from the CR-V

Next up, I cut a piece of MDF in-between the front seats

This will house the pc and will gain storage and additional cup/drink holder

                    M350 Universal Mini-ITX Enclosure
The M350 Universal Mini-ITX enclosure features one of the smallest footprints to date taking Mini-ITX kit miniaturization to a whole new level. Please note that with the 60mm fan installed on the Zotac motherboard, only 1 x 2.5" storage drive can be installed inside this enclosure. Wall-mount brackets are included with this kit for easy car cabin or trunk installation.

The M350 enclosure also features a unique hideaway compartment which houses a special power switch and 2 x USB inputs in a unique layout. The power switch has two functions not found on other enclosures: (1) Switch disable with jumper (to prevent accidental or unwanted power-offs) and (2) Auto power-on after power failure (for ALWAYS ON status) with jumper. The layout of the USB inputs allows you to "hide" 2 USB devices (such as Wi-Fi adapters or Flash drives for booting) behind the front panel.

You can find more in-depth information on the revolutionary M350 Universal Mini-ITX enclosure here:

                    Car PC Connections
                    Video Output
Use the VGA output for an analog connection (use a VGA to composite adpater for your composite video display device [RCA]) or you can alternatively use the HDMI or DVI outputs for digital image output.

                    Audio Output
If you have an audio receiver with AUX-IN you may use the rear 3.5mm audio jack and a standard stereo audio cable and make the connection for audio in that matter (just like plugging in an iPOD or other MP3 Player). Also, if you are using a subwoofer and external amps and would like to protect your speakers from the "thump" which comes when the Car PC is turned on from an off position, you can utilize the anti-thump function on the M3-ATX power supply to protect your audio equipment.

                    Network Connectivity
With the built-in Wi-Fi adapter, you can easily connect to a wireless network without any need for additional adapters. The built-in Wi-Fi adapter supports 802.11b/g/n technologies (up to 144Mbps).

Had some spare time today and conitnued with the installation

Painted the MDF and installed the brackets to hold the carputer

I didn't put extra effort on painting the board since it will be hidden and wil be mostly covered

with bits and pieces and cablings

Here's a photo of the Gravity Screw to hold the mdf board on the subframe

VGA and USB to connect to the touchscreen and screwed on the subframe- a bit of camera shake!

I still need to run the Line-out for audio and the remote trigger to control the pc from the Kenwood head-unit.

and Microphone for Voice command recognition.

I can't wait to see where you are going with the center console. Did you see mine ? Here I am jealous of the 2 screens, but I think I am going to put one in back for my kid.
