  • 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

I picked up a newer laptop with a broken screen off of Craigslist pretty cheap and modified it a bit, removed the screen, and cut the area out where the DVD drive goes so it will fit in the location I've chosen to mount it. I ran the connection for the DVD drive out the front of the laptop and with a cable extension will mount the DVD drive in another location. I am lucky in that the Hybrid has an AC outlet in the dash as well as an auxillary input in the dash so I have power and a way to get sound into the stock Ford Sync system. The other issue of being able to turn on the laptop was solved from another post on this forum, I soldered wires to the factory on/off button and ran them to a 3.5mm jack I installed on the side of the computer so I can now run a momentary button to the jack and turn it on from wherever I mount the switch. So this is just the beginning, I need to get me some monitors, I don't want to do a dash mount as I don't want to mess with the factory Sync Radio so I was thinking 2 7 inch touchscreens in the visors, or maybe just one larger monitor on a gooseneck on the passenger side, not sure yet.

I vote for the two 7" in the visors.

Looks good so far. I like creative modifications.

OK, test fitted the PC today. The spot your are looking at is the area behind the passenger airbag, I have it tucked up top above some of the HVAC duct work, you can see a piece of it poking out up top, the 2nd pic is taken from lower pointing up at the PC. The airbag bolts back in fine and nobody will ever know its there except me...and of course the members of MP3Car LOL.

Laptops and their batteries get pretty hot. Are you ok with temps there?

I sure hope so, but only time will tell for sure.

I've been working on making a bracket for the DVD drive which I plan on mounting right under the glove box where the tray can slide out right under it. If I can get it to work it should be pretty cool. I'll get some pics up soon. It's tough because I am not looking to drill or fabricate anything in the car itself so I have to make it work with existing bolts in that area.
