  • The NEW Frontier A motorhome restoration.

I have purchased a 1979 Dodge 19' Motorhome made by Frontier MFG Inc. in Kelowna B.C. I paid 650.00 for it plus 50.00 for the 20km tow. In Ontario we can order the history on the vehicle, which I did and was pleasantly surprised to find out I am the 2nd owner!(bonus). It was on kijiji for a few days and I happened to call and recognized the voice, it was a guy who used to be my tow truck service when I ran my Landscape company.(small world) He told me the owner had put it away in the fall of 2007 and he past away the following spring. His wife kept paying the storage fee's till this spring when she went into the hospital, her son took over the finances and had the tow guy pick it up and get rid of it as someone had left the doghouse off and a racoon moved in for the winter and he couldn't reach the washroom door handle so he went everywhere else.
On to the positives, he had winterized before he put away. He looked after this very well and everything is still there and original. 3-way fridge, stove, holding tanks, plumbing, wiring, AC, furnace, water heater, and pump. I have BIG plans for this restoration including a full entertainment system as well as carPC with all the bell's and whistle's. My only problem will be that it's pre-obd2 so I will have to add some sensors and use more mechanical devices/gauges. Phidgets will be of great help for monitoring holding tank levels and water pump control, and to have full control of lighting. I picked up a couple of new 850ca rv batteries at wallymart and will be firing it up tomorrow after I drain the 6 year old gas and do an oil change. I will post some pics soon. I finally found a place to put that z77n-wifi i7. SNO

You can install a server in any vehicle, as long as you have the space and are able to power it.

        Ask the Land Yacht.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

Thanks for the comments guys! A server in it's term is really a wide range could be just a regular box that serve's music/video files or run's many things. I have both in my home/business network. here is my server for my fleet tracking

But I won't be installing that in there. The driving compartment is a single-din opening so I will use xenarc mdt-x7000 with i3-2550 for navigation/engine monitoring/xm. for the rear system I will use the z77n-wifi i7-2700 with acer t231h 23" multi-touch for music/video/sligbox/surfing/motorhome system (pumps, levels, lighting, energy control). I will run the same type of 3/4g router (TL-MR3220) I use in my truck as it has been a very reliable product with good range for the wifi and I can hardwire the dash and rear systems. The wife likes her sony tablet so that solve's me having to share. I spent all day yesterday doing an oil change and removing the rotted ceiling and cleaning all the racoon sh** and garbage up. As a treat I installed the xenarc in the dash last night, still need to wire it up but I wanted to make sure it fit and would open up clearing the dash (the dash stick's out abit more on one side). Pic's coming up shortly! SNO

WOW! What a project! We did one like that ourself when we lived in Boise 24 years ago. I bought an old cabover camper that had been used to store FEED and later garbage after the rodents had there hand at feed. It sat for 10 years behind a barn, and I got it for $75 bucks.

Me and my wife stripped it, and put in new paneling, expanding foam insulation, PVC pipe and fixtures, and a used propane water heater. We restored it over the winter, and used it for 3 seasons before graduating up to a travel trailer. We actually made $650 profit when selling it for $1000, but if you add in all the labor... My wife sewed new seat cushions, and curtains all color coordinated to match what we seen at the RV stores, so it looked really up to date.

I did install a $29 Kraco cassette and speakers kit from K-Mart, but they did not have MP3's in those days, and our Compaq Presario 486SX was too big to fit.

Sorry, maybe I should have been more specific, I was thinking like my Proliant DL360, a blade server. It would be interesting lol.

I had a feeling I knew what you meant.

There are "command center" vehicles that run racks of servers for EMS, law enforcement, search/rescue and other emergency services in a situation where there's no other power.
But they're probably not powered by an M4, either.
The generator kinda gives it away.

Yeah, I work in IT so I get to recycle things, my server being one of them just need to set it up lol. It also helps to scavenge parts for my eventual carpc project

I will need to do some major mods to the dash to accomodate. here's a couple of pics SNO

looking forward to seeing your project progress! i can envision a main PC or Mac server connected to 1 or more displays, with it also serving content to and sharing an internet connection with multiple tablets for the passengers to be entertained on...
