  • My First CarPC install...

This is my first go at a CarPC so will be alot of trial and probably error involved... Deliberately picked older+s/h hardware to play with first, not only just incase I bugga it up but to see how I get on with it too!

    Basic Hardware...
    • Intel Atom 330 Dual Core D945GCLF2 mobo
    • 2GB RAM
    • Kingston 64GB SSD (System)
    • Seagate 320GB 7200 2.5" Harddrive (Media/Storage)
    • PPL-I-150 M2-ATX 160 watt psu
    • LinITX 7" Touchscreen
    • TDA 7850 4x50w Amplifier
    • USB GPS BU-353
    • DAB/FM USB Radio Module

    Software...
    • Windows XP Pro
    • RR

The Atom 330 mobo, Ram, SSD, M2-ATX was a bundle in a brand new case... Good a place as any to start I thought!

I'm waiting for the TDA7850 amplifier to turn up, then I can start loading software and test it out.

Once thats done I can start fabricating the dash trim to take the screen!

Grreat start! I would recommend windows 7 for fast boot and compatability, as well as Driveline for the front end, as it's free and easy to use.

      Thanks!!

Have WinXP Pro available at the moment... plus I really don't like win7 for some reason.

After having a read up and seeing whats available... Will be trying RR first.

Couldn't resist the urge to fire the comp and monitor up, apart from making sure they both worked... wanted to see what the quality of the display would be like. (the seller of the comp had it running as a boatpc with ubuntu...

Shame my picture taking skills don't match the quality of the display on the monitor!?!

Where did you get the case for your mainboard?

I think Xp is good enough for CarPC. Did a Test with Xp and Win7. The Boot needs the same time on SSD.
RR-Skin: BMW OpenBM Skin for E39 [never ending progress :-(]

I bought it as a bundle, but it came in the original box for the case which is...

Hopefully it won't be to bad... spent a good few hours reading the thread on here about them.

Plan on using a Kinetic DRA-6003 stubby mounted on the roof to give it the best chance!

Been busy with day to day and xmas stuff, so haven't had a chance to do much... The TDA7850 finally turned up, couldn't believe how small it is!?!

I was going to use a 80GB laptop drive for media/storage, but... Came across a Seagate 320GB 7200 2.5" one for a decent price which arrived today!

Been working out the best way to modify the dash for the screen and have a plan for that, also been thinking about an accessory box to house the DAB/FM radio module and the TDA7850 amp module and mounting it up behind the screen in the centre of the dash, although unsure if that will cause problems/interference between the two?

Will keep thinking and planning and make a proper start once xmas and new year are out the way!

A card board cutout of the exact screen dimensions is the best way I found for trial fitting in the dash.
