Well, I've finally started my carputer"project". I have to admit my fabrication skills are below zero, so taking out the dash for bondoing was out of question Luckily my techy-skills are a little better, so getting this to WORK would be no problem

Also, I'm pretty impatient, wanting to finish before I've started, as the installation MAY indicate

Well, having said that, I didn't want a total rubbish install eiter. The screen had to be in decent place, and I wont have cables lying around, so i will try to hide them as best as possible. (Indeed, my glovebox does look anything but tidy, but hey, only if you open it! ) Also, I wanted to keep my HU, and use the auxin (which unfortunately is in front).

    Specs:
    Lilliput 7" Touch
    M10000-thingy (nemeiah)
    512DDR (PC2700 i think?)
14,3HD, (soon to be replaced, just testing the mount for some time to ensure its working)
    M1-ATX psu
    Dlink-USBhub
    Logitech noisereducing mic
    PCI Wireless w/external antenna
    Mini-keyboard
Holux (or was it haicom, cant remember gpsmouse)
Bluetooth-dongle (should hopefully work fine with my arriving SE k750i)

Im planning on running FrodoPlayer, Mapmonkey and Phonecontrol (maybe even navivoice, but im not that keen on spending hours on setting it up ), so cheers to you guys

    So, on to the pics:

The mount for the Lilliput, Loctited/Tec7'ed over the clock and two unused buttons. It's really robust, to chemicals:

Inside my glovebox... Pretty tight fit, and we had to cut out a bit at the back Really nice cut to, thanks to a friend and his Dremel After we had cut through we found out that the cars wire harness went right behind there, so if we had cut about 1/4 inch higher, we would have had a helluva job jointing cables :P

Some pics of the nearly finished install from the drivers seat:

So, there it is... Waiting on a M1-ATX-thingy and some cabling before it's finished Oh, and I actually dropped that HD-installmethod, went for perforated strips instead, i'll bring some pics up by the end of the week

Please leave me some comments, maybe even hints and tips

oh, shuddup! It wouldn't be near as good as it is now, if i hadnt constantly supplied us with crappy ideas besides, i did all the neat work in the glovebox (except the cutting)

Who of you guys should we toss the bone to?

Really, the install is looking good. Good work, to the both of you.
Well and if the cabling is finished, I can't see any reason to call this install ghetto.
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

            Currently : Audi A6 - no install

Second install : VW Passat '97 CarPC
            First install : '87 Audi 80 CarPC

Heh I'll say we split this 50/50 Actually, as I said, the PSU aint connected yet, but that wouldnt leave a mess either, as i just run a cable straight from the battery thru the hole in glovebox, so you wont see that either...

Oh, and i should be able to power the 7port usbhub from the 5v-rail on the M1-ATX?

              Glad you liked the install

Hey! I have that same HU! If you don't want to run the wire to the aux on the front you can get an adapter to use the CD changer on the back. They sell for about $50. I plan on getting one someday but for now I use the aux on the front also. I'm assuming thats what you're doing even though you don't have a picture of it.

It's okay i guess. Nice that it plays MP3's but with a car-puter it's not an issue. I do like it having a rotary volume control. Mine is the SX990, I'm assuming yours is the same model. I've looked around on eBay for the same model, I'd like to put that in my other car but they're still selling for a lot.

I'd like to get the aux cable for the cd changer but $50 sure sounds steep just for a cable.

Yeah... $50 is sure a pretty penny... well, i dunno if that cable is available over here, never seen it.

btw, thought i should explain my exellent mainboard-installaton...

i fixed the mainboard to the bottom of a icebox (cut out with my precious scissor), then loctited velcro to the glovebox and under the icebox It's pretty neat infact, as it doesnt move around when i dont want it to, and it's supereasy to remove without any tools, if i want to Plan on fixing my PSU in the same way, upsidedown right over the mainboard
