  • 2004 Infiniti G35- And the process begins...

Bored at work so I figured I'd make my first substantial post.

Long time lurker- I've wanted a computer in my car to play my mp3s since the late 90s... and over time the "required" features on a PC in my car has only grown longer and longer- as you can all imagine. My new car, extra $ to blow and the car PC community really taking off all spurred me into real action finally. So here's what I've got coming up (Attached are two pics of my ride, I'm at work right now so I don't have access to them all) ~

    Already have:
    • Bluetooth GPS receiver
    • XMDirect receiver & subscription (connected via TimeTrax converter unit)
    • iGuidance 2.1
    • Motorola V600 Bluetooth phone (for phonecontrol.net use)
    Ordered (being delivered today):
    • SlimPro 620
    • Intel Pentium 4 Processor @ 2.80GHz 533FSB / 512K Cache
    • Built-in Bluetooth
    • Built-in PCMCIA (Front Access) - for Cingular Wireless EDGE Internet card
    • PC3200 DDR400 RAM DIMM 1.0GB (512MB x 2)
    • Internal 60GB 2.5" Ultra DMA 33/66 7200RPM Hard Drive
    • Internal Slim 24X CD Rom
    • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    • Integrated Intel 865GV Intel Extreme Graphics 2
    Still Need:
    • SAT-to-aux input adapter
    • Long (dash to trunk length) external antenna for GPS receiver
    • CNX-P1900 Dual Output 140 Watt 12V DC-DC Regulator
    • 7" Xenarc Touchscreen USB VGA display (ordering before end of June) /w custom housing frmo DigitalWheelz.com
    • Bunch of long USB cables (from trunk to dash length)
    • USB Hub for upper glovebox
    • Slim DVD-RW for upper glovebox
    • Two USB IDE enclosure PCBs for "hot-swap" storage in lower glovebox
    Things I am still considering:
    • Valentine 1 Radar Detector
    • Some sort of custom "docking station" for USB IDE hard drives
    • A soundcard with line-in (for XMDirect input into PC)
    • What front-end to use
I'll post picks as time goes on, I hope to have the hardware installed and functioning by the end of July- pretty ambition I know, but hey, gotta shoot high!

Thanks for the recommendation Peoples, but I have that already listed on my list. "Things I still need to order" has the xenarc display from digitalwheelz.com listed. That is the website for god_of_cpu that he was selling the screens + housings from before he started selling them on here. I look forward to getting one!

The bluetooth receiver I got was this:

                  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...784809898&rd=1

Courtesy of my girlfriend for my birthday, so I didn't really have a choice in which one I got. However, so far I could not be happier with this one, so I think she did good. One of the neat things about it is it apparently uses a nokia cell phone battery which makes getting additional batteries really easy and really cheap.

I've tested it for about 3 hours in total so far and it has worked flawlessly on conjunction with iGuidance 2.1 on a pocketPC in my car.

                    Nice Car

Nice car. I'd take the G35 Coupe over the 350Z anytime, beautiful down to the exhaust note.

So, where are you at with this project? I got the same P4 barebone system, but for whatever reason it kept rebooting Windows XP Pro. So, I decided to just give up trunk space and go for an ATX motherboard with Opus 150W PS.

I'm curious how your install goes.

                    Gerard
