  • 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse with 8" LCD, Relocated Stereo & AC Controls

    ALL DONE!!!! http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=63433

I plan on having this completed by the end of the coming week, but probably will be done sooner! I spent about 6 hours today on relocating the head unit. Step 2 will be moving the AC Controls to the lower center console, Step 3 will be the 8" Lilliput 809GL monitor and PC installation.

    Step 1: Complete

This turned out better than I thought it would. It required no real fabrication (read: no bondo, fiberglass, etc). I used a heat gun to slowly mold the front fascia of the clock pod and a dremel to dremel it out so the radio would fit from the rear. I also dremeled the hell out of the original clock pod and center speaker mounting brackets so the radio would fit. The clock pod cover was originally so rounded that the stereo face itself wouldn't even fit where it is now just setting it there from the front. The heat gun worked wonders! As usual, looks way better in person.

Everything works including the motorized detachable face.

I plan on putting the AC controls into the lower center console in front of the shifter. The screen will fill up most of the area where the current radio/pocket/ac are located and should leave me enough room for a media card reader. The screen doesn't get here til tomorrow so I'm not for sure on space there.

I measured it just now and according to the size of the 809gl it may even be hard to fit a media card reader in the space I have, I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I had considered putting a DVD drive in the center console lid facing forward. My car is the RS, it came with no center console lid, so I made one.. I'd just have to redo it a bit to fit a drive in it, not a big deal. I don't want to put one in the front cause I'd use the media drive more often and I don't want to wait to order one

WooHoo! Just got the manual push/pull heater cables extended! They work great. I used ring terminals for connection points and positron bicycle gear cable with reinforced bicycle sheating.

This is taking a lot longer than I wanted it to! But doesn't it always?

The fiberglassing of the lower dash took a lot of time but tonight I finally started priming it. I've got 4 coats of the finish coat on the upper piece with the screen and 2 coats of primer on the lower dash piece (for the heater controls). The textured black spray paint I got from Home Depot looks like a match to the factory interior, tomorrow I'll spray some matte clear and hopefully have time to finish it.

I have lots of pictures I'll be posting along with the finals either thursday or friday!
