  • Austin's 2001 4Runner Carputer Project

Just starting to learn all about this carputer stuff, here is my current list of hardware.

    DWW-700H 7" Flipout VGA Screen
    Opus 150 DC-DC PSU
    AN35n Ultra Motherboard
    Nvidia Graphics Card
    Linksys Wifi

Currently I have been building the box that this thing will go in. It will be sliding in next to me current subwoofer setup, so I built the computer enclosure out of MDF and will be carpeting it to match the subwoofer enclosure.

Heres how I plan on doing the setup. The computer will be mounted in the cargo area, so I will be running a USB extension to the front, a VGA extension to the front, and a heavily shielded RCA to minijack will be wired all the way to the front and will plug in to the aux port of my CDA-9835 and then the audio will be outputted to the two amplifiers from the cda-9835.

Here is the *almost completed* computer enclosure.

the agp card will be secured, dont worry, its not done yet. I have the opus 150 to power the mobo, HD, and one usb port. I figured that would suffice, it is running a mobile processor so its not too power hungry. I think I want to get a point of load psu for the front LCD but Arman at DigtalWW.com told me that I don't need one, just plugging directly into battery power will work just fine. What do you guys think about that?

Well maybe if you are going to use a 2A fuse and a voltage regulator! If not id get some sort of protection for start-up and such.

You may get some interference if you do that. Easiest way is to just plug it into the PSU.

do you think that the PSU has enough power? I've tried all the calc's but they just don't seem to help much. Guess it'll be trial and error.

Ok well here is a quick update. I have the DWW-700H installed in my car. The above pictured computer never made it to configuration, I must've done something to that board by not handling it correctly because it wouldn't boot up. I then grabbed a old Asus board I had laying around from a Mini-ATX case with a 1ghz cpu and it kept crashing. It made it into the car for about three days before I ripped it out because it was unusable.

Currently I have a Epia M10000 and I believe that all my previous issues have been caused by a bad hard drive. The hard drive is being rma'd, so hopefully we will have some updates with pictures soon.
