  • Dracos's 3rd CarPC install!

...in a Fiesta Mk3.5 SI this time (all the kit used in this install was taken from my renault install).

From conception to where it is now has only taken me 6 hours

Tomorrow should be very VERY productive..

note: here are my 1st 2 installs:

    1st ever: Renault 19 Phase 1

    2nd: Nissan Sunny Pulsar GTi-R

    Pictures? you REALLY wanna see?

    ...

    OK THEN!

The dash I have to work with:

moving on, the screen bezel (ripped out of the renault),

the place I want to put it,

and after some hot-glue to test fit (before any cutting is done!)

the angle of the screen in relation to the dash,

after some cutting of the main dash piece and once again, hot glued in for a test fit!

ok from here, i removed the hot glue from the front and reapplied to the back, then i started with the glassing.

I removed the button portion of the bezel, but only the button portion i kept above it and below it and glued/glassed it back together to look 'pretty'

and now just some photos before sanding and the building of the bottom with wood and glass (dash should look remotely stock when finished!). You can also see in the 'sturdy' photo, that after removal os some of the dash plastic, i left a flimsy part, so I sturdied it on both sides with a nice lump of glass paste. Enjoy - more updates tomorrow.

    thanks for looking guys! comments?

the renault install didnt allow me to only mould the bezel, so i had to install the whole screen as one unit.

As for the renault install? the car turned into a **** heap on wheels, everything started going wrong with it, so i scrapped it and bought the car i have now.

BIG UPDATE! and of course, loads of pics!

          How the day started:

          and how the day finished:

          WOW!

          yes, I even impressed myself.

anyways, the step by step pics

First of all I built the base up with card and got it shaped mostly how I liked (sorry, forgot to take pic).

          Then I gradually applied fiberglass

in this one you can see the card (the white)

          keep on applying...

now the main application to cover it all and build it up to the right thickness

and with the screen in place for screenshot purposes

            After the first sanding:

and how i ended up after it:

            DUSTY!

it was then washed, and the 1st layer of normal filler was applied, sanded and then washed again:

at this point I thought it best to apply a layer of primer to see where i needed to pay attention to.

as you can see, not actually too bad!

anyways, a lot of sanding, priming and filling (repeat) ensued.

I then finally ended up with:

            and the finished product....

            painting and test-fit tomorrow

                ok, a painted update!

the spray gun i used fooked up and decided it wanted to spatter rather than spray. so now, it looks like:

not too bad though, ill sand it down smooth AGAIN, and try with an aerosol instead of my gun. **** happens.

Actually...that spattered look doesn't look too bad...not stock, but groovy in its own way nonetheless.

im going to be borrowing 2fastmr2's spraying gear to spray it up properly on saturday. so for now, a lot of sanding and refilling has gone on and its being sprayed back to the hi-build grey primer that you can see in the other pics.

Looks good, much better than I would have expected on a Fiesta dash!

nice work. sucks about the paint.

has a lot of potential. spend alittle more time with making it looks like a factory peice (adding body filler to emphensize a shape...sand it off...ect)

I love the overall shape though.
