  • 2001 Honda Prelude

Well... After some dreaming and scheming, I have started getting everything and putting everything together.

    The car:

    The current parts bought:
    - ASUS P4V8X-MX
    - Celeron D 340 -> 2.93GHz
    - Powmax MicroATX case

(Using it without those stands, just going to lay on its side when I fabricate its enclosure)
    - Microsoft GPS Mouse (already had from laptop)
    - Streets and Trips 2005 (Not a fan.. at all.)

    Need to buy:
    - PSU - Still having problems deciding which to get. OPUS150?
    - 802.11b/g router
    - 1gig PC3200
    - Soundcard --- Audigy or Onboard?
---Mobo came with: "The K8V-MX comes with an Cmedia CMI9761A audio codec which supports high quality 6-channel audio."
    - Also plan on running a rearview infared camera.
    - Already have XM, need to buy the in-car setup and run it on the serial.
    - Lilliput 8"
    - USB wire extension + port [for mouse/keyboard under the seat]

    Any suggestions for power supplies?

Also for the monitor... Will I need to run any special regulators or whatnot with this? I don't know why I can't figure out how many watts I am going to be running or the monitor question. I must not be looking correctly on here.

I have had great success with my Opus 90, which has been replaced with the Opus 120.

most of the modern touchscreen monitors will take 11 to 13 volts. I would power it off the PSU so that its power can be regulated.

On a side note. Nice to see another person from illinois around. We do CarPC meets from time to time.

How many watts would the monitor take? Wouldn't it be more effecient to buy a seperate regulator for the monitor? Since this box is going to be in my trunk and all?

you are already going to be running a line from your battery to the back for your computer why add the extra cost of a regulator when you can just add a second power line.

I think Im just going to use the radio harness w/ a fuse for the monitor.

Ordered the screen and PSU today.

Well. I have about everything purchased. PSU and screen is in transit, arriving tomorrow.

I have purchased: Keyboard, trackball, ram, usb extension and a usb four port hub for placement under my seat.

                  So far going good

monitor is 10W. (says at all the stores )

are you seriously running a 2.9ghz cpu??? what is the wattage on that? 80W???

you are gonna need more than an opus 150 my friendIt may run but you are likely to be plagued with problems.

I won't be using the CDrom, so I am getting all of the software / driver installs out of the way.

                        It's going along!

Dremeling is nearly done, been doing it in spurts... too busy with the firehouse for the past few weeks.

                            I'll get some pics up...

On that note -- Anyone using Windows w/o a frontend? I have been looking for Winamp skins, and really anything that aids overall. I'm just not a huge fan of front ends... maybe I just need to get used to them?

theres no way around it try to switch to gps and mp3s etc even with the best skin for winamp and all the resolutions u can do a frontend is the only way to go

try driving while changing songs its not doable no matter how good you are its asking for a car accident
