  • 1996 Accord Install Redone

Hey, well I decided against using a mac mini in my last thread which is here, that has all the bondoing structure work as well.

    http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=74390

I'm going to be putting the computer I am on now inside the car with some upgrades and I'll make another for my home use. I'll post up the specs later.

    AMD Athlon XP +2800...2.083gHz Processor
    2x 512mb Kingston RAM
    Radeon 9600 SE Video Card
250gb Maxtor HD for movies and computer games for the passenger.

Any other things I'll put them up in here later.

I'm going to be hooking up an adapter enabling me to hook up another monitor which will be a motor mounted 17" monitor that comes out of the passenger side along with a keyboard and mouse tray.

Probably make a custom mold in the side of the trunk to mount the computer into the trunk or maybe in my rear seat if I have the time.

Took out the rest of the dash last night and got some epoxy laid out this evening. I ended up getting the 60 minute kind so it's still sort of hardening (the backdrop of the bezel). I'll end up getting it painted probably next weekend after I do some minor sanding infractions. Make the backdrop look smoother and all the good stuff.

One question, do you guys think it would look better if I just "bondo"ed the dash trim to the actual dash around it? that way I could cut back on a lot of the plastic internal working and fit more things for the computer or whatever else I plan to put back there.

Almost done with the dash now. I just need to decide whether I want to seal the trim kit to the surrounding dash. I will be getting it painted in hopefully another week. Should I do any clear coats? It's going to be midnight black so any suggestions on anything crack away. I'm almost done with the computer just looking for a used Athlon XP 2800+ because my other burnt out.

Well that's it for now, sorry about the lighting my camera's battery was dying and the flash wasn't letting me take without it dying.

I'm thinking about ideas where to put my computer. I'll be making a small housing for it and hopefully will go in my backseat considering I'm going to cut the factory one into a custom shape so it folds down flat with the center console extending between to the two seats and putting the computer in there.

I need to find a tray-less dvd/cd drive to put somewhere in the front. Maybe just get a slit in the carbonfiber/wood to the drive.

Nice work so far on the bezel.
Which power supply and shutdown controller are you going to use?
Is there a reason why you want a gig's worth of ram?

I'm going to be hooking up another monitor for the passenger. My friends and I like to play video games a lot. Such as Battlefield two and that's minimum requirements. And plus circuit city was selling 512mb for 27 bucks. You can't get much better than that.

Not sure about the power supply yet nor the shutdown controller. You can recommend some if you'd like.

              3 things

              1) i really like the work. it looks like your putting a lot of effort into making it look good. wtf is wit hthe wood though?

              2) thank you for getting rid of the green. shooot your brother for it. or push him out of a moving car. or drag him behind a riced out civic with a HUGE wing because he probably likes those too.

              3) are you a girl? if not...your nails are really freakin long :/

The wood is just used for a back drop I'm going to be painting it soon. I didn't want to use aluminum because of support reasons. I'll be putting switch mounts in there sooner or later and didn't want some weak thin or heavy thick metal in there. haha my brother almost put a huge *** spoiler on the accord. I would have taken it off and sold it to get some more money. XD.

Last but not least. I'm a guy; reasoning for the long nails is I do fingerpicking guitar and most of my nails on my right hand and my thumb on my left hand are decently long. Most of them are short now because the sanding and them getting in the way ****ed me off

Does this drive have the connector cables that hook to a desktop or is it a notebook one that just slides in; if so is there is a way to connect the right wires to it?
Go back to the page and about half way down theres a drop down menu under available options for cd adapter, there you'll see "Slim Type CDROM/DVDROM/CDRW Adapter [MP3CAR-0083] (+$7.00)" thats what you need to hook it to a normal ide interface aka desktop interface..
Also this is the actual adapter here under the adapters category:

I have to make a post with haste so it's just going to be pictures and little notes.

There's the computer that's going in there. I may have to get a smaller power supply since that's 420watt.

What I decided to do was go with a power inverter DC-AC and just plug the power supply into that so I could easily take the computer out whenever I needed to.

The computer's location will be in the center of the rear seat which I have already cut apart and believe me it hurt cutting that. Scary crap.

Also I plan on making the console where the computer will slip inside an armrest for the rear seat. Along with the backseat to fold down flat unlike all the accords.

If you look at that you see the seat is slanted. I may end up having to get a custom rear seat installed that's really thin. Which I might end up doing

Something I did realize was if I took the bottom of the seat out and folded the back down it came down flat. Just how I want it.

I need to find a way to flatten the entire back/trunk to an exact flat rear.

But here's the deal. When the armrest is part of the case, I need to make an armrest hole in the back of the seat so that it slides in perfectly. Going to get some green leds to light the inside of the computer case so that you can see it with the back seat down. Hopefully it will be pretty neat.

I ordered the dvd drive a few days ago, along with a 2-channel amp to run the speakers today and the dvd drive notebook to IDE adapter. All I need is the power inverter which I'll get sometime this week. My friend and I will be working on the computer cases sometime within a week hopefully depending when he gets his new gaming computer.

I forgot to mention I'll be running two fans from the rear of the armrest/computer case into the trunk with one or two in front of the case serving as intake from the front and exhaust out my trunk.

                      Suggestions are always nice.

I'll probably end up photoshopping some of those pictures to show you my plan, as well as assist me in being as creative as I can.

                        SOOO SMALL SO AWESOME heh.

I couldn't find anything else that had a right angle so I just used part of the housing for the factory stereo plug in that I took out long ago.

Later tonight or tomorrow I'll be drilling the holes for the switches. There's going to be 5 of them. The Amp and the laptop drive converter to IDE will be here soon. I'll get the dash primed and painted the get the carbon fiber going.

Then onto the rear center console/computer&amp housing.

Got the front part all taped up. As well as decided to put some black on the lower part of the sides.

Okay so I got the switch plate bondoed into the armrest part. But I'm waiting for some new switches to come in that I ordered. I'll be putting them on an angled part of the switch plate I already have. Then to painting. Anyway, I began to get the back all cleaned up to start making the case and everything. I measured the distance between the CPUs original seat and found the IDE cable would have to be 4.5ft long and decided against that. I moved the seat for it right behind the driver/passenger armrest and have about a 3.5ft measurement now.

I made a cut out by the way of my motherboard and the highest thing in the computer, the video card.

I sewed the new shaped back seats to the fabric and set down velcro pads on the seating area.

Got the amp the and drive adapter.

I'm in a rut. I have two switch panel holes in my dash now that I don't know what to do with exactly. I was going to get a cup holder or sunglasses holder but I wouldn't want either of those things that close to the window.

I'm making the computer case out of plexiglass and going to have green led/cathodes shining down on it. I'm deciding whether to keep the amp inside it's original housing or to take it out to save space. But I do like that circuit board appeal to things so I make lay it under plexiglass with more led/cathodes. Getting my power converter from DC-AC so the computer's powersupply will simply hook up to that. I have a design of the entire set up on my laptop but the program doesn't allow any picture formats otherwise I'd share it with you all.

Anyway I'm starting to see the end of this project and it's making me happy. Although after I do have it installed I have a few other things to add to it such as GPS and all the good stuff.
