  • 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT 56K Beware.

I have redone this post and included the latest stuff and deleted the mistakes... Its still not perfect, but getting there...

Here are some starter pics. I have more to take tomorrow as even THESE are not most current. Still Rewiring all of the speakers, Installed Tweeters into the pillars and will be making a new enclosure for those... But here are some starter pics for everyone to tell me good/bad/other... :P

Pic 1: Dash Booting at night

Pic 2: Dash with unpainted USB/LED's

Pic 3:Modified the AC/Circ Air Control to have a Power LED and HDD Activity LED and a working USB Port. Its been painted since...

Pic 4: Back of the PC. The big *** hard drive has been converted from IDE to SATA Laptop hard drive...

Pic 5 & 6: The old PS2 case. The fan is now flush and sanded smooth. Pic to follow, its also color matched to my car.

Pic 7: My 5 Channel Amp's new home. Some Plexiglass will cover it and the area around needs to be carpeted still... NEED FUNDS!

Pic 8: Blank button is now the Master Shutdown and a hidden button for the Computer Reboot button.

Pic 9: Painted and sealed. Hopefully done with the dash.

Pic 10: PS2 installed. The USB cable in front is the Dash USB. GPS and touchscreen are in back.

Pic 11 & 12: The new Sub Box. I was going to install another one, but really, I dont need it.

Pic 13: Tweeter installed. Need to make a new tilt enclosure, but thats to come...

Pic 14: Where the Radio is now installed.

damn ur couch and ur uber n00b carputer skills!

what i mean to say is - awesome job man. very smart using a laptop, rather than building a machine with half the capability but double the cost. and i'm also thinking of integrating a touch pad somewhere around my arm rest too... just trying to find a usb touch pad, used, for like $10 somewhere.... ;]

          major props.

hey man nice install. Yeah bondo cracks easily i would suggest using bondo-glass or marine tex. you can find marine tex at any marine supply store and the bondo glass is basically bondo with strands of fiberglass in it. very strong material, i would say the strongest of the two would be the marine tex.

Yeah, sounds like your switching between VGA settings. Meaning your laptop is defaulting to "projector" or "Laptop Screen" instead of external monitor. Check in the Bios and Windows settings to change that.

Oh, and update on me car. I gots into a small accident. (4 cars is small right?) and now have some body damage. I blew some fuses and had to remove my entire Carputer. BUT, with a 400w inverter and a 350w ATX power supply, Im back in action. Ive also gotten an SDC. Both of these I have GenesisFactor to thank for! So, thats it in a nutshell, pics to follow.

Bios haves extremly simple changes, I can't select nothing about vga or others.
In windows where can I modify for default external monitor?
Or different, Can I simulate the Key "FN" with external Keyboards?

What type of laptop is this? I know with my old dell, it would take a few seconds, then automatically switch to external.

I have been wondering how to do the same thing. I think for now I am going to use a simple script written with a program called autoit to do 4 steps:

                              1. It will detect when a programmed hotkey, for either multiscreen or single screen, is pressed.
                              2. Launch the executable that configures my display output, for me it is some Intel exe
                              3. Simulate what needs to be pressed to change the screen orientation
                              4. Close the display configuration window.

This is definitely not the cleanest way to do this but is probably one of the simplest.

It sure would be easier to find a way to set FN-F? to some keyboard hotkey.
