  • '98 E39 BMW Install - My First One

Hi, I have just started my first carpc install (though it'll be a mac). I plan to follow up soon with the progress I have made, but onto what I have planned.

I will be installing a Xenarc 700 series touch screen which will be attached to an Intel powered mac mini. Both of those will be be powered by a CarNetix CNX-P1900 regulator, and I am using a Blitzsafe audio adapter to tie into the factory system using the wiring for the CD changer.

If everything goes to plan, I will maintain full use of my factory sterio and be able to use the mac for a digi-music box and GPS navigation.

As I said earlier this will be my first install (of any kind), though I have been planning this for about a year, I hope to keep this thread alive as a progress to help bring to light some issues that can arise with your "first one".

Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

This is what the touch screen will look like when in place, I plan to move the cigarette lighter, and traction control button to the right of the screen. Right now I am looking at posibilities for finishing it. Mounting the screen securly will be no problem, it is making a faceplate to cover the gaps to the left and right of the screen, any suggestions?

I just got my Blitz-Safe module which interfaces with the controls that are prewired into my BMW for the CD changer, and also into my DSP amp. Shown below is the install....

This is the Blitzsafe installed, I guess I shouldn't really call it an "install" I only plugged in two wires (one for the CD changer controls, and one for the amp). What this does though is allow me an RCA audio input that can be selected from the factory radio as the CD changer. I plan to run a cable from the computer to the trunk, which will allow me to listen to music from the computer with the factory radio...

This is the bracket that I use to hold the front of the monitor up, I also attached a bracket that holds the cigarette lighter to the monitor.

This is the monitor and cigarette lighter installed with the new brackets. All that is left to do on this phase is bondo gaps on the left and right of the monitor/lighter, and the gap between the lighter and the screen.

Next I plan to move to the electrical...
