Tested fm transmitter with ipod in current car which has 2 power inputs

Test 1: With power input at front of car; FM transmitter also transmitted interferance from the car, clearly a poor earth.

Test 2 : Tried second power input in the boot; No interferance from the car, transmitted clearly. Not the best sound quality but will allow easy sound input into standard car stereo.

      Hard drive

Originally I was going to have a 40gb Seagate laptop drive which is more resistant to bumps and bangs. However the choice of case allows for a conventional 3.5" hard drive to be installed. I know that this hard drive is not going to be as resistant as the laptop unit, but at 48.87 for 250gb, its got to be done.

I have ordered a Western Digital WD2500BB 250GB 7200RPM ATA/100 2MB Cahce - OEM. The car its going into has not got sport suspension and most of the roads I am using are in good condition.

A big change in the hardware?

I have got about 400 / $770 to spend on the car pc its self. I could continue with the current plan or go for a mac mini with a Carnetix CNX-P1900 V2 140W Dual Output Power Regulator which comes with all the relevant power connections. I like the look of the macmini, very tidy and very powerful for the price too.

        Mac mini

        Heres the spec :

        1.66GHz Intel Core Duo
        512MB (2x256MB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)
        Option: up to 2GB
        60GB Serial ATA
        Option: up to 160GB
        24x Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory
DVI output port with support for VGA, S-video, and composite video connections via adapter4
Connects to external display with digital resolution (DVI) up to 1920 x 1200, analog resolution (VGA) up to 2048 x 1536
Four USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 400
Built-in speakers, optical digital audio output/headphone out, optical digital audio input/audio line in
        Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit)
        Built-in 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11g); built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) module
        Apple Remote
        DVI to VGA adapter
        5.08 x 16.51 x 16.51 cm
        1.31 kg

        If i did go for the above unit, the only peripherals I would have to add would be;

        *Nano keyboard
        *23in 1 card reader
        *4 port usb 2 hub
        *DVB-T usb 2 tuner
        *Centrix 1900 power supply unit
        *LinITX 7" touchscreen
