Does this come with an SDK or some sort of documented API so we don't have to use that scary looking software that comes with it? (well, it looks good, but scary to try and embed in another app)

There is an SDK. There are no plans to release any low level API details. Anyone developing on a windows OS can already fully use the tuner since all you need is the new dll (which is in Centrafuse and rr).

Not sure about EU frequencies. It should pick up any FM frequency, but we won't know for sure until someone tries it.

I'll rephrase that, can it tune to even frequencies on FM ie 96.0, 96.2, 96.4 etc. In the US the FCC limit the radio channels to odd frequencies eg 96.1, 96.3, 96.5 etc.

also does it have 9khz switching on AM?

Does the radio signal leave the HD module in a digital form and get converted to a USB digital audio signal or is it sent out as an analog signal and then USB converter box converts it from analog to a digital USB audio signal?

It's my understanding that it's analog when it hits the USB converter.
