  • Need some installation help...

I am soooo close to getting this to work...

    Windows XP Pro SP3

When I first installed the drivers and ran the centrafuse 3.0 program, I lost audio from all of centrafuse...meaning that I would go to my mp3 collection, and would not be able to hear a thing. The visualizer would be moving around too, showing that there was in fact sound...

checked my amp, no problem there...so I knew it had to do with the newly installed files. I uninstalled everything, and then I had audio again...

Installed everything again...no audio...So, I went to the control panel, and selected the audio icon and sure enough the audio output was set to "USB Audio CODEC"...so I set it back to "Realtek HD Audio output", and CF music library works again...

So then I downloaded the windows application for the BoomzBox HD radio, and it is able to turn on the radio (I can hear the click), and scan through some stations and even get the artist and song name for one station...however, there is no sound...

Restarted the computer, and didn't boot up the BoomzBox HD radio player, but rather just let CF boot up. Clicked on the radio button (already selected HD radio as the device in settings) and I heard the click of it turning on. I then went to the station that I got song info from, and sure enough, the song info was showing up in the top part where it says the name of the song...no audio though...in fact, the visualizer wasn't even doing anything...

so thats where I am stuck...have yet to find step by step instructions for CF3 installation so any help would be nice...thanks...

my 1st guess, is you didnt read the documentation supplied on the CD
on installation of the BoomzBox Radio... (about the audio play back device)

if you installed the proper CF3 files, there is a nice installer on my skydrive (posted in a sticky)

when you go to the CF's radio config, you select:
    HDRadio
    Buffered Audio YES
and in RECORD LINE IN DEVICE; USB AUDIO CODEC

now im using a an os with better audio system, and more descriptive inputs...
hopefully CF3, shows you USB Audio Codec, if it doesnt, its just another one of CF's bugs

    here is setup (CF3.x)

ok, i just for kicks, made a vm of XP sp3

and just like CF2, CF3, doesnt properlly enumerate RECORD devices ONLY ON XP
        its fine in vista/win7

looks like CF3 has a bug that it cant properlly enumerate all audio devices on the record side... there is a simple work around

edit the config.xml directly in the CF data directory, system
        in my XP system:
        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Centrafuse\Centrafuse Auto\Mitchjs\System

        find:

        <RADIOLINEIN>1|-1</RADIOLINEIN>

the 1st number 1, in this case is the index of my audio record device
        "USB Audio CODEC "

try 1,2... depends on how many audio record devices one has

also remember to turn on buffered audio
        -Thanks

            couple of questions myself here...

Are you supposed to change just the first number or also the second one for the RADIOLINEIN? I've tried just the first, with no success so far.

            My situation:
            • No sound anywhere from the radio, whether in CF or the Boomzbox application.
            • I can see that the radio is getting a signal, in CF and in the Boomzbox application (I can see which artist is playing, for example)
            • Control panel does have recording line in device of USB Audio CODEC listed for recording devices (my default is my Andrea USB device, though, which works well in and out of CF)
            • Device Manager: when the OS (WinXP Sp3) detects the Boomzbox, it says at first 'USB Audio CODEC' in the popup bubble of 'detecting new hardware', but when it's finished installing, device manager shows just "USB Audio Device", and it shows two of them (Microsoft drivers are listed in details)
            • In Boomzbox application, I can change the settings to 'audio engine off', and have 'USB Audio Codec' selected. Doing so, I see the meters on the main app move (as if music is playing somewhere). If I have 'enable audio engine' to 'on', I will not see the meters move.
            • I use a USB DAC for audio (HippoHifi Bloat). It is the default playback device, and I can hear other media just fine in the OS and in CF. Not sure it matters: windows controls the volume for this device not via 'master', but via 'wave' volume control.
            • In CF radio options, I do not see 'USB Audio CODEC' as a recording device option, but I do see it as a playback option (same is the case in control panel - it shows in both places).

Not sure what else at this point. I double checked the DIN cable connection, and it's firmly in place. Any ideas?

            TIA,
            Per

EDIT: BTW, I downloaded and installed your CF3.0 patch files.

Update: I can get it to play in the Boomzbox application. Audio on, monitoring on, using USB Audio CODEC.

CF remains a problem. I noticed that when I go into radio, it automatically mutes my Wave line. After I exit, it stays muted, and I have to go to control panel to unmute. I tried unmuting while it was playing, too, but no difference.

I tried substituting 1,2,3,4 for the first number in RADIOLINEIN. No differences, but when it got to 4, it would sit forever on 'starting Audio' on the CF boot up screen. I waited about 4 minutes or so, with no progress, before killing it.

              Thoughts / suggestions?

              TIA,
              Per

                in CF, try 0

just look in your control panel... how many record devices do you have

say you have 2, a Microphone In, and the USB Audio Codec

the 1st one is 0, the second one is 1... and so on.. at least thats how it seems

im not sure what you mean by wave line... but this should have NOTHING to do with wave line

you are setting playback device to none, set buffered audio on, then exit out and edit RADIOLINEIN

                best to edit last

Wow...OK. Not my brightest hours this entire radio troubleshooting. And for context, I've been deeply technical the majority of my career, so this isn't how I always roll

Anyway - how long do you think it took me to figure out that the right source would NEVER show up in the settings, but that after editing the file, I should just go try the radio?

Yeah...'way too long' is right. Happy to have it working now

                  Thanks for all the help!

I'm all good now as far as getting sound out, but not getting very consistent behavior when resuming from hibernation (75% of the time the whole computer is frozen and I need to hard power off). That only happens if the radio is playing within CF before hibernating.

Perhaps the 'delay on resume' will help here?

i don't use hibernation so I would not know, but yes, I know that delay on resume is the amount of time (can't remember what they are called in programming, but 1000 is about a second)...so you are telling it not to look for the device until however many seconds after the resume...make it like 10000 or something high at first and then see if that helps...

CF, defaults to 2000 (2 secs) but you might need more for usb devices to renumerate

but alot of the time, its bad wiring... the power that goes to the 12V DC connection on the usb interface, MUST BE POWERED WHEN THE PC IS POWERED

so IGNITION power is a POOR choice, since that is OFF while the pc is going into hibernation...

id just wire it to 12v constant, or 12volt hard drive power
                              -Thanks
