  • Help! 6 speakers, but only 4 outputs on new HU and one set of RCA's thats taken...

question. I just bought a HU for my car and after looking at the wiring harness I realized that it only has 4 outputs for speakers (2 front, 2 rear)

I have 6 speakers total in my buick century. 2 Tweeters, and 2 midrange in the front, and 2 - 6x9's in the rear.

The best option I thought of so far was wiring the tweeters and front speakers on the same channel... (unless for some reason thats how they do it stock, and thats how its already wired, shrugs, does anybody know about that?)

Or should I sell my hu and come up with one that has a 6 speaker output (i've never seen one really...)

I have one set of rca outputs on my HU and they are low range for my subwoofer so an external amp is not really another option

first of all: This is a car-pc forum, and I don't see a car-pc in this story. Second of all, I'd do a little more reading. You can't just wire tweeters and midrangers (or any other speaker) together. Now I'll leave it up to you to find out why.

Meh, I've had it with people that don't do their own research and then come whining in here for help because they want things handed out, or because something went wrong. I'm not the spoonfeeding type. I did lots of reading to come to the point where I am now. People that are to lazy to do that don't have to expect much help from me. And those irrelevant questions just clutter up the forum.

correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't the stock speakers already part of the stock wiring harness? therefore if you connect the head unit to the harness, the speakers should be covered. The only difference i can see is if you're speakers are connected to an amp; then that's the only reason why you'd use the outputs.

The 2 outputs for the front should go into a crossover that separates the midrange from the tweeters. If you connect the speaker's harness to the HU's harness you should be fine as long as you have the stock speakers still in the car and you did not removed the crossovers.

thanks LXT, i talked to some guys with the same setup as me today, they said the same thing you did. Looks like I'm ready to go!

second, IC-30, i thought this was a car audio section? as in anything goes as long as its car audio? now that i take a gander through the options, i suppose i was wrong. I will be leaving as some members just don't appreciate people trying to learn off their personal experiance, EVEN if they seem like stupid questions to you.

Also, if you know the answer to the question I'm asking why not be helpful and just answer it? I have spent plenty of time on other forums and am familiar with mechanics (toyota mr2 specific to be exact) not electronics and I try to help out everyone as much as I can, unless they are like:

"I Hav sum prbos. wit my dash getting it off. also how about wiring 6 speakers to 4? how u do dat? I' hav 2 tweeters, 2 midrange and 6x9'd in da bac. any help wud be grat. pc homies"

I did a search on this forum and found nothing that would help me, so I figured why not post up?

There should be more people like LXT 123, and allstar, who took a whole whopping minute to reply to my questions instead of wasting a minute *****in about "i'm not the spoonfeeding type etc"

why waste your time posting that stuff and cluttering up the forum with your reply if you don't want to help? thanks anyway.

If you'd read the FAQ's of this forum before posting a question, you would have known that, although there is a car-audio section, it's there for people with caputers in their install. As you may have noticed this is a carputer forum.

Now that doesn't mean you won't get any help, it's just that you might get a quicker answer on a car-audio specific forum.

And no, I don't think your question is stupid. I'm just not the spoon feeding kind of guy, and try to point out to people they should search for theirselves. I could've answered your question, and that would maybe have solved your problem, but by searching by yourself, you would've come across way more info then you wanted. And maybe the info you would've found isn't of any relevance as of now, but sure could come in handy at a later stage maybe, so that you don't have to go and ask questions all the time everywhere....

And again: The reason you haven't really found anything on here, is because we don't cover such issues as a soul purpous. But there's TONS of info on your issue on other forums.

And while I may be cluttering up the forum with posts like this, I'm trying to make clear to you (and other newcomers) that you're just not in the right place. If people like yourself would take the time to read the rules, they would not post topics that have nothing to do with the forum, and by that clutter up the forum. And that way I wouldn't have to clutter up the forum by telling people those kind of questions don't belong here.

edit: And I'll be a little more clear on the wiring-thing. If you just wire a tweeter and a mid together, you'll blow the tweeter. If I told you that in my first reply, you knew your tweeter could blow, but you wouldn't have a clu WHY your tweeter would blow to pieces. And THAT's why I told you to do some research.

I think the entire thing comes down to the type of people who are in this hobby for the most part. Most of us are geeks. Some people on here are just rich and/or ignorant and can put in a PC, but do it for the bling factor, not the geek factor.

So from the geek side, most geeks are the people who get a bit annoyed when people ask "why isn't my mouse working?!". "Well are the batteries dead". "It takes batteries?!" DOH!

We are the kind who try to figure it out ourselves and put pride in the answer when we find it. We look down upon people who ask a question that we know the answer to could be found easily. We know the answer, and where the answer is, and can base the likely hood of them finding it against their intelligence. If a 6 year old asks me why the mouse isn't working I will help him in a heartbeat and try to do my best explaining it to him. When a 30 year old asks me, I answer with annoyance.

I think it is just the type of people we are for the most part. Oh well.
