  • YES!!! Yet Another Amp Problem

    Hello i have a brand new Infinity Reference 7541a 4 Channel Amp that is not powering up. This is the first attempt i have given to hook up this amp and to my dismay, its not going very well. I have routed all off my wires (ground, power and remote) yet once i connected the 12v line from my battery to my amp the powerlight did not go on.

    I then installed a voltage/amperage monitor in the 12v line and it picked up voltage readings so i know the line is live. I used the amp ground line to ground the v/a monitor so i know the ground is good. The only question i have is the remote wire but i ran a wire directly from the remote radio line to the remote input on the amp so i dont see where i could have gone wrong here.

    My question is if the known live 12v line going to the amp is connected, should the power led on the amp light up? There are 3 LEDs on the amp, (power, protect, and clip) and none of them light up. Would an improper remote line prevent the power led from lighting up? When i connected the 12v line a seconed time to the amp the recheck the connection it sparked a little. All fuses and lines are good to the best of my knowlege, Could this amp be bad or could it be my remote? thanks

    The easiest way to test it is by connecting the remote wire to the same power source/connection as what's been used for the continuous supply.

      So you say to connect the ground wire leaving the amp to the 12v line entering the amp? And this will tell me if the amp is good or not? Sorry for the ignorance and thanks for the help.

        NO...! That's NOT what I've suggested. Leave the ground wire alone. You should NEVER connect ground to any positive connection. That is a #1 recipe for disaster. NEVER do that.

        You said that the amp has three connections: power, remote, and ground. The "Power" connector or post should be connected to a continuous 12V (positive) power source.

        Remote should be connected to a switch power source so the amp only turns on when the sound source is turned on. For testing purpose, you could use the same power source you've connected to the "Power" connector or post.

        Ground should be connected to a metal surface on your vehicle.

        Again, NEVER connect ground to anything positive. NEVER..!

          What he said was to connect the REMOTE wire to the constant 12volt, NOT the ground wire!!!!

            lol, sorry for mis interpreting that. I will connect the remote wire to the 12v power wire running from the battery and post back to report on my findings. thank you.

                  WOW THANK YOU. This trick turned my amp on. THank god it isnt blown. Now i just need to find out which wire i can connect my remote line to turn the amp on. I drive an Acura Legend 1994 GS Sedan and have been searching the www.acura-legend.com forums for a suitable remote amp hookup, my search continues. thank you all very much.

                    you'd want to hook it up to the IGN line in your standard wiringharness.

                      would the remote to 12v line trick be safe to leave connected while i test the rest of the system? When i dissconntect it the amp shuts off so im thinking to hook it in while i test the speakers.

                      I did find this diagram of my factory head unit harness.

                        I wouldn't leave the remote in the power terminal for too long. Being it's a very thin wire, you could melt it, or in the worst case damage your system. The remote wire is only there to give a pulse signal so the amp turns on.

                        And I think you'll have to tap into the A5, but I'm not sure, so better wait to do so till someone can confirm this.

                          the wire won't melt it's only going to pass as much current as the remote terminal asks for. you can use the method that you used to test your amp to turn the amp on while you're setting everything up. that post asks for millamps and wont rise any higher regardless of what your volume is

                            OK i used that as a temp to see if all my speakers were functioning properly and they sound great. My only concern is there is a pretty loud fuzz that you can hear while no music is playing. It is not an alternator whine because i started the car up and reved it and it did not affect the fuzzy noise. I messed with the input levels but this doesnt seem to affect the volume of the fuzz, only the sound when im playing something. Is there another setting on the amp that i could adjust to eliminate this fuzzy noise? again thank you

                              There is a yellow/white wire that comes from the back of your stock radio, and turns on both your power antenna system and your factory amplifier (located left side of the rear seat). Use that wire. Input impedence of the remote input terminal connection on the amps is very high. No worries, even if you connect to that wire back there at the factory amp.

                              I always keep a ground loop isolator handy to put inline between RCAout of Radio and RCAin of Amplifier just if there is fuzz, as a troubleshooting aid. You can get one at radiocrack pretty cheap.
