  • SORRY! its an IPOD THREAD!

im such a noob, just bought a car.

ford auIII xr6 and i want to leave the stock look of the headunit.

although i will intend to run an external amp and sub.

can i plug an ipod to the amp which will play through speakers????

i dont care if i sacrifice the cd player

    please help asap

If the amp is powering the speakers as well as the sub - Yes. you will still have to use the head unit to turn on the amp, or run a new amp turn on line from a switched source.

so if i have an external 4 channel amp, an external sub and stock speakers

how can i make this work, gimmie details please!!!

is it: run 3.5mm to 2 X RCA cables to the amp, and have the amp powering all the speakers and the sub?

      please im lost.

If your amp will power all that, then yes it's just as you said. You can control the volume with the iPod. But, you still need a 12V amp turn on line.

If you simply want to add an ipod to the factory system, try one of these....

          http://www.thecat.net.au/catbaaux.htm

          Instructions

          http://www.thecat.net.au/Images/CATB...structions.pdf

It plugs into the factory loom behind the fuse box, and provides an Auxiliary input to let you connect external audio devices. Then you can add a 3.5mm headphone to RCA converter and plug directly into the Ipod headphone socket. If you want to be more elaborate you could come out of the dock connector on the bottom of the ipod for un amplified line level output, into the factory system.
