  • Intercepring audio from Mercedes CD Changer

    hey all
I just tryed Car2PC as a way to connect my PC to Mercedes C280 stock radio, unfortunatly it requires me to disconnect CD changer and I wanna keep it.. id rather do some sort of a switch for oudio to select between either CD auduio and PC...

the CD changer has 6-pin molex connector, so I assume taht one (or 2 ) wires the sending plain audio signal to the the headunit. (Am i right?) If so I wanna put the Mp3Car usb audio source switch on thta wires to select my audio source... [HL]the problem is that i dont know which pin is responsible for oudio signals[/HL].. so maybe some one knows that or maybe you have access to the drawing files.... i would really apreciate the help!

    THanks!

    Did you solve the problem?
What is your head unit? Can you post a photo of the head unit...

yep i did solve the probelem
on the back of the unit on the CD connector thee is one cox wire that gets separated into 3 wires... = thicker black, red and yellow
Black - is you ground (not yet sure is its the same as car body)
Yellow and Red are the audio signal wires L, R speaker channels..

So to do source alternation just cut Y, R cables and and connect them to Y-Switch, or phygigets bord, or mp3car audio switcher....

I will post the pix when i get my camera back..

PS: this trick only works for mers models 94-98 (doesnt work on ML) as new models have optical source from CD. Older models have tape dack that might have similar things but I never had a tape dack even on my old 300D '85

Thanks for sharing the info. Unfortunately my head unit is Becker BE 3100 and the car is MB CLK W208 year 2001 and the head unit is equipped with the noticed optical plug - D2B so it comes very complicated to connect what ever external audio source.

There is a few ADC converters for D2B that may be an option, but the prices starts from $300. Also some of them are noticed over Internet as sources of problems.

        Anyway, thanks...

            How about this one:
            http://www.hdwise.com/product.php?productid=402

PS: I think you need DAC and not ADC converter...
The link I gave you might work, but what I'm courious about is that if mers used D2B as a home automation standard then they might allso included controll signalss within the cable... is so I guess you will need to split the cable ...

Probably easier way is to go to the AMP on the trunk and to the analog switch there rather then messing w/ the optics... so run 2 wire shilded coax back to amp and intyercept the signal there... unless you got noncertible, it should be like 2 hours of work

Thanks. I`m not from NYC, I`m from Bulgaria, this is Eastern Europe.

I need exactly the ADC because the sound comes analog from the MP3 player or carputer or what ever sound source, than it is converted to digital D2B signal and inputs into the head unit. I have no external amplifier because Becker have 4 X 45W integrated amp which is enough for my needs. I have 8 speakers in my car - all speakers and head unit are OEM and work perfect with quite good acoustic.

The head unit is connected to the CAN-BUS of the car and I can see the information on a big LCD under the speedometer on my cluster. Also have a steering wheel controls (volume, stations and phone) and speed dependent volume level. I like all this advanced options - thats why I want to keep the original head unit is have a perfect integration and compatibility.

This is what I mean ADC: DICE and ECP / D2B Aux-In
